10 Actors Who Would Be Perfect

Summary

  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a video game that’s beloved by fans, which would make its casting a tough yet rewarding process.
  • Actors such as Josh Brolin and Karen Gillan have the necessary experience and emotional depth to portray specific KOTOR characters.
  • Other actors, such as Rachel Weisz and Keanu Reeves, have long since been fan-favorites to bring famous KOTOR characters to life.

With so much interest revolving around Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the possibility of it one day returning to Star Wars canon, one way for Disney to do that would be to turn it into a television series. Like Ahsoka and the series that came before, this would not be the first time beloved Star Wars characters were brought into live-action. It would also not be the first time Disney borrowed from Star Wars Legends.

Originally released all the way back in 2003, Knights of the Old Republic is an action RPG video game following the story of Revan. The game takes place in the Old Republic period of the Star Wars timeline, a period in time far before the prequel trilogy or The Acolyte ever take place. It is characterized by player choice and incredible characters, many of which would be interesting to see in live-action. Should Star Wars ever make a TV show based on it, these actors would be perfect to join the cast.

10 Josh Brolin Would Make For A Brutal Canderous Ordo

His Experience As Cable Will Be Beneficial In The Role

Despite the fact that Canderous Ordo is a Mandalorian, he is quite different from the religious and most often honorable Mandalorians of the modern era. Similar to them, he was a mercenary instead of a bounty hunter, and is first met acting as the muscle for a crime lord on the planet Taris. Later on in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Canderous Ordo would reunite the Mandalorian people under the title of Mandalore the Preserver.

Brolin would be able to ground the anger of a character like Canderous while bringing his war-torn stories to life.

Not only does Josh Brolin bear a striking resemblance to Canderous, but he has been cast in similar roles before. The gruffness and action-heavy representation of his role as Cable in Deadpool 2, coupled with his recent appearance in the Dune franchise, shows that not only is he capable of playing the role, but he will be able to place the character firmly within a big-budget science fiction franchise. Brolin would be able to ground the anger of a character like Canderous while bringing his war-torn stories to life.

9 Joonas Suotamo Is The Perfect Choice For Zaalbar

He Has Played Wookiees Throughout The Star Wars Timeline

Although this name may be unfamiliar to many, Joonas Suotamo actually has a long history with the Star Wars franchise. First acting as the body double for Peter Mayhew’s Chewbacca in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he would eventually go on to take over the role for the remainder of the sequel trilogy. Suotamo also played Chewbacca in Solo: A Star Wars Story as well, cementing his place as the character for the modern era of Star Wars.

This is not the end of his experience, however. Suotamo will be making a return in the upcoming series The Acolyte, slated to play the Wookiee Jedi Kelnacca. Because of his experience playing Wookiees, both alongside Peter Mayhew and otherwise, the right option would be for him to continue this trend and play Zaalbar as well.

8 Julia Butters Would Bring The Innocence Of Mission Vao To Life

She Is An Age-Appropriate Casting Choice For Mission

First encountered as an orphan on Taris living with the Wookiee Zaalbar, Mission Vao is a unique companion with a penchant for hacking. Despite her courage and incredible combat abilities, Mission is only fourteen years old at the time of Knights of the Old Republic. Because of this, any actress playing her would have to be suitably young as well.

Julia Butters would be the perfect actress for this role, not only because of her age, but because of her incredible talent as well. Even at fifteen years old, she landed roles in movies like Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and The Gray Man, the latter of which she even did many of her own stunts for. Already having that stunt experience would be key for a character like Mission, who is known for getting into trouble across the galaxy.

7 Jamie Dornan Has Carth Onasi’s Charm

Fifty Shades Of Gray Is Not The Only Notable Role He’s Had

Being the first companion players will meet during their journey in Knights of the Old Republic, Carth Onasi is an incredibly memorable character. He was a Republic pilot that served during the Mandalorian Wars, now on a mission with Revan to find the Jedi Knight Bastila Shan. Carth is known for his loyalty, but also his thirst for revenge, desperate to avenge the loss of his wife and son.

The ideal choice for this role would be someone like Jamie Dornan, an actor capable of exhibiting both the charm and wide range of emotion needed to portray a character like Carth. Despite the fact he is best known for his role in the Fifty Shades franchise, Dornan has also given incredibly powerful performances in films like Anthropoid, A Private War, and the television series The Tourist. If he were chosen for the role of Carth Onasi, he would succeed in bringing his bravery to life.

6 Karen Gillan Has Played Characters Like Juhani Before

Nebula And Juhani Share A Few Striking Similarities

Juhani is a unique character in Knights of the Old Republic, as the Cathar Jedi is first met during what could very well be her spiral to the dark side. The player has the option to either help her see the light, or to kill her right then and there. If players choose to save her, not only does she become a companion for the rest of the game, but she also becomes a romance option for a female Revan.

With a dark backstory and plenty of inner conflict, Juhani bears quite the resemblance to a character Karen Gillan has played before: Nebula from the Guardians of the Galaxy series. Also cursed to tangle with the conflict between light and dark, Gillan’s performance as Nebula was incredible, showing off the powerful emotions that come with making such difficult decisions. Gillan would be the perfect choice to play Juhani, not only because of her talent at getting to the core of complicated characters, but also because of her experience of acting in the makeup and prosthetics that would be required.

5 Keith David Could Show The Complicated Emotion Of Jolee Bindo

Voice Acting Is Not His Only Talent As An Actor

Met on the planet of Kashyyyk in the dangerous and wild Shadowlands, Jolee Bindo is a Jedi Exile that has been excommunicated from the order. He was reckless during his time with the Jedi, allowing emotion to seep into his use of the Force. Eventually, when his wife turned to the dark side, he could not bring himself to kill her. Because of this, he imposed exile upon himself and chose to live alone on Kashyyyk.

A legendary actor in his own right, Keith David has voice-acted in everything from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog to the recent musical comedy series Hazbin Hotel. His live-action filmography is equally as impressive, with roles in massive hits such as The Thing, Armageddon, and The Chronicles of Riddick series. With a talent that has spanned as many years as David’s has and with a voice that inspires, he would be the perfect choice for Jolee Bindo.

4 Jason Isaacs Would Make For A Chilling Darth Malak

His Portrayal Of Villains Always Promises A Great Performance

As a villain, Darth Malak is known not only for his incredible capacity for cruelty, but also for his close ties to the player character’s Revan. He played an instrumental role in ending the Mandalorian Wars, characterized by their wholesale slaughter on the planet Malachor V. He is both manipulative and cruel in equal measure, at one point even convincing the Jedi Knight Bastila Shan to become his apprentice.

Any actor would have to be able to pull off this manipulative attitude, and there is no one better than Jason Isaacs, who has made a career off of playing iconic villains. Best known for his role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise, he has actually already made an appearance in the Star Wars franchise voicing the animated version of the Grand Inquisitor. Recently, he made an appearance voicing the villainous Lord Enver Gortash in the video game Baldur’s Gate III, a character that exemplifies exactly how evil a modern Darth Malak could be.

Any actor would have to be able to pull off this manipulative attitude, and there is no one better than Jason Isaacs, who has made a career off of playing iconic villains.

3 Matt Berry Would Match The Humor Of HK-47

He Has The Perfect Voice And Experience For The Role

Fan-favorite character HK-47 is a droid that the player can encounter on Tatooine and later recruit to their party. He is an assassin droid with a long and storied history, one that must slowly be uncovered throughout the player’s time with him. He is known for his cruelty, but also his funny quips and banter, making his lines some of the funniest and most iconic in the entire game.

According to enthusiasts, one actor that can match this droid’s humor while also giving an incredible vocal performance is none other than Matt Berry. Not only has he recently made an appearance as Mr. Handy in Amazon’s Fallout series, lending his voice to the famous android while also playing a human role, but he has actually played a droid in Star Wars before, that being 8D8 in The Book of Boba Fett. Not only would playing HK-47 allow him to flex his comedy chops, but it would almost certainly be a fun experience as well.

2 Rachel Weisz Is A Classic Option For Bastila Shan

And She Has Recent Experience In An Action Role

Bastila Shan is one of the most important characters in Knights of the Old Republic. Not only is she the character that Revan is sent to locate right at the beginning of the game, but she goes on to become an incredibly valuable member of the crew, assisting Revan in learning the ways of the Force. She is kind but also overconfident, desperate to prove her worth to the Jedi Council by defeating the Sith.

Making iconic appearances in The Mummy franchise as well as Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Lobster and The Favorite, Rachel Weisz is an actress known for her dedication to her roles. Not only has she played a variety of different dramatic parts over the years, but she has also recently appeared in an action movie, that being Marvel’s Black Widow. Not only would she be able to emulate the emotions of a brash and stubborn Jedi, but she would also be able to participate in the stunt choreography that is likely to come with the role.

1 Keanu Reeves Is The Best Choice For A Canon Darth Revan

Fans Have Wanted Reeves In The Role For Years

For years, enthusiasts have been casting Keanu Reeves as Darth Revan, citing both his uncanny resemblance to what would become the canon version of the character as well as his experience in movies such as The Matrix and later the video game Cyberpunk 2077. To this day, Reeves is making incredible action movies like those seen in the John Wick series. He is a jack of all trades in this regard, something that will be necessary for a character like Revan whose story can have so many different outcomes.

If there were to be a Knights of the Old Republic television series, Disney would be hard-pressed to hire anyone that isn’t Reeves for the role. After two decades of expectation, saying that hopes are high would be an understatement. Regardless of who would be chosen in the event of a hypothetical series based on Knight of the Old Republic, Reeves would be an excellent choice for the role.
