Outlander season 7, part 2, is on the way, picking up after several big twists and turns in part 1. Jamie, Claire, and the rest of their family have certainly gone through a lot since the series began, with hardly any time to breathe between each subsequent disaster. Still, as Outlander begins to head toward its eighth and final season, these characters are doing their best to establish a happy life for themselves in both the 18th and 20th centuries. Something always manages to get in the way, however, and the disasters of Outlander season 7, part 1 will undoubtedly result in more twists and turns in part 2.
The events of Outlander season 7 are based on Diana Gabaldon’s seventh and eighth Outlander books, An Echo in the Bone and Written in My Own Heart’s Blood. Split into two parts, the first debuted back in June 2023, detailing the events following Claire Fraser’s arrest for the murder of Malva Christie. Now, going into Outlander season 7, part 2, Claire and Jamie are doomed to be separated again after a brief period of joy being reunited with their Scotland family. Of course, there’s sure to be a whole lot more to happen, which makes a refresh of the big events of Outlander season 7, part 1, all the more necessary.
Outlander
season 7, part 2, debuts on November 22, 2024.
10 Tom Christie Took The Blame For Malva’s Murder (Saving Claire)
Christie Managed To Survive As Well
Outlander season 7, part 1, picked up with Claire imprisoned for Malva’s murder, with Jamie desperately trying to get her back. He was ultimately unable to do so, and with the Revolutionary War in its early stages, it was unlikely that Claire would get a chance to defend herself in court for many months—if not years. However, Tom Christie came to Claire’s rescue when he confessed to murdering his own daughter.
This confession was, of course, false. Tom is in love with Claire and wants to give his life to free her. Upon returning to Fraser’s Ridge, Claire learned that it had actually been Tom’s son, Allan, who murdered Malva. Ian killed Allan, and Claire believed for a time that the whole family had tragically been lost. However, she later learned that Tom had not been hanged after all. While Claire and Jamie put all this behind them, it’s certainly possible that Tom Christie will make a return appearance in Outlander season 7, part 2.
9 Brianna & Roger Went Back To The 20th Century To Save Their Daughter
Little Amanda Could Only Be Saved In The Future
Brianna and Roger welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Amanda, in Outlander season 7, part 1. However, Claire quickly noticed physical signs on the baby that she was suffering from a heart defect common in newborn babies. Unfortunately, there was no way to save Amanda in the 18th century. If she were to live, Brianna and Roger would have to return to the 20th century, where doctors were equipped for such a procedure.
After returning to their own time, Brianna and Roger stayed in Scotland, where they bought Jamie’s childhood home, Lallybroch.
After returning to their own time, Brianna and Roger stayed in Scotland, where they bought Jamie’s childhood home, Lallybroch. Several years passed for this family in Outlander season 7, part 1, and by the start of part 2, Amanda is happy and healthy living in the castle of her ancestors.
8 Claire & Jamie’s Home Was Burned Down By Wendigo Donner
The Obituary Finally Came True (Kind Of)
Brianna and Roger had traveled back to the 18th century to save Jamie and Claire after finding an old obituary stating that the Frasers died in a house fire. The date of this incident came and went, so they assumed that they had achieved their goal before later returning to the 20th century. However, it turned out the obituary had the wrong date since Wendigo Donner’s arrival at Fraser’s Ridge in Outlander season 7, part 1, saw the devistating fire finally become a reality.
Tom Christie placed the obituary thinking that the Frasers had died in the fire.
Wendigo was also a time traveler, and he was desperate for jewels so he could return to his own time. So, he ransacked the Fraser home, smashing bottles of ether on the ground before striking one of Brianna’s matches for better light. This caused the house to explode—though only Wendigo and his crew were killed. Still, this twist revealed the potential for a self-fulfilling prophecy in Outlander since the fire wouldn’t have happened had Brianna and Roger gone back to stop it.
7 Mr. & Mrs. Bug Stole Jacobite Gold (& Jamie Secretly Hid It Away)
The Bugs Met A Tragic End
While Wendigo searched the Fraser home, some hidden gold was uncovered, which Jamie ultimately realized was the missing Jacobite gold. This fortune had been initially meant to support Bonnie Prince Charlie’s attempt to take the English throne, but when this movement went sour, it was divided up amongst Hector Cameron (Jamie’s Aunt Jocasta’s first husband), Dougal MacKenzie, and some others. Arch Bug, resenting that he hadn’t gotten any of the gold, stole a share from Jocasta and secretly hid it at Claire and Jamie’s house.
Jamie essentially confiscated the gold from Mr. Bug, and he and Ian set watch over it, suspecting that the man would return to claim it. He was nearly correct, but it was Mrs. Bug who came for the Jacobite gold and began shooting at Jamie and Ian when they tried to stop her. Unfortunately, the old woman died in the effort. Knowing that others would surely come after the gold as well, Jamie hid it away in a cave he and Jemmy had once found together. He then wrote a letter to Brianna and Roger in the future, giving them a clue that would help Jemmy locate the gold.
6 Ian Fell In Love With The Quaker Rachel Hunter
Ian’s New Crush May Be In Danger
In Outlander season 7, part 1, Ian met two Quakers, a doctor named Denzell Hunter and his sister, Rachel. Ian hit it off with Rachel immediately, and it wasn’t long until they were subtly flirting with one another. However, when Ian kissed her, she scolded him and told him that a relationship would be impossible. Ian ultimately agreed, not only because he didn’t want Rachel to be disowned by the Quakers (like her brother) but because he feared repercussions from Mr. Bug following the death of his wife.
After accidentally killing Mrs. Bug, Ian offered his life to Mr. Bug, but the old man refused. He said it wasn’t an equivalent exchange and would take what was due when Ian had something worth taking. This was a pretty effective threat since Ian was looking over his shoulder all throughout Outlander season 7, part 1. At the end of this installment, it seemed that Mr. Bug actually carried through since he was seen approaching Rachel Hunter—what he does to her will have to wait until Outlander season 7, part 2.
5 Jemmy’s “Nuckelavee” Turned Out To Be William Buccleigh MacKenzie
Roger’s Ancestor Accidentally Slipped Through The Stones
Back in the 20th century, Jemmy was getting into all kinds of trouble and blaming it on the fairy folk. However, when larger things began disappearing from the house, Jemmy became adamant that it wasn’t him but the Nuckelavee. His parents didn’t believe him until Roger saw a man peering through the window and went to investigate. It turned out that this man was William Buccleigh MacKenzie—Roger’s ancestor who accidentally traveled through the stones.
William (AKA Buck) became an extended guest of Lallybroch since he was technically family. He developed something of a relationship with Roger and Bree’s children. Though the 20th-century MacKenzies were initially uncertain of his trustworthiness, Buck managed to become a friend and defender of their home.
4 Brianna Discovered A Ley Line In The Tunnels
Brianna Uncovered A Secret Related To The Stones
Brianna managed to get a job in Outlander season 7, part 1, but it was no easy thing to get the men she was in charge of to show her respect. At one point, they locked her into an underground network of tunnels. Thankfully, clever Bree had no real issue figuring out how to escape. However, while below the surface, she was surprised to discover a strange rippling fog that gave off the same buzzing sound as the traveling stones.
They concluded that Bree had discovered a ley line and that the place where such lines intersect is where the stones had been erected.
Brianna ran through the haze without issue and emerged home in her own time. After discussing it with Roger and looking at some maps, they concluded that Bree had discovered a ley line and that the place where such lines intersect is where the stones had been erected. Therefore, it was determined that time travel is connected to ley lines around the globe.
3 Rob Cameron Abducted Jemmy To Find The Hidden Jacobite Gold
Outlander Season 7 Part 1 Left Jemmy On A Cliffhanger
One of Brianna’s coworkers, Rob Cameron, tried to cozy up to the MacKenzies, and it eventually became clear why in Outlander season 7, part 1. After Bree accidentally packed Roger’s manuscript, which outlined their time travel adventures and the hidden Jacobite gold (and who knows where it is hidden), in with his teaching materials, Cameron got ahold of it and read the lot.

Jamie and Claire being in America suggests they left the Jacobite Rebellion behind. Outlander season 7 shows how its aftermath affects them later.
Cameron pretended not to believe what Roger had written, referring to it as science fiction. However, the truth is revealed when he invites Jemmy to see a movie with him and his nephew. Suspecting nothing, Brianna and Roger agreed—but Buck and little Amanda sensed there was more going on. After heading to the stones, Roger and Brianna discovered Jemmy’s scarf and concluded that Cameron had taken the boy through to find the Jacobite gold.
2 Roger & Buck Went Through The Stones To Find Jemmy
Time Travel Is Getting More Complicated
The last we see of Roger and Buck in Outlander season 7, part 1, they are going through the stones to find Cameron and bring Jemmy back. The problem is that these characters haven’t quite gotten the hang of time travel yet. It’s unclear precisely when Cameron would have traveled, so Roger could only think of his son and hope he would be taken to him.
Brianna stayed behind with little Mandy in case Cameron and Jemmy eventually returned. However, Mandy stating that she could no longer feel Jemmy (they share a deep unseen connection) strongly implied that the boy was taken to a different time. Of course, only time will tell for certain.
1 Jamie, Claire, & Ian Return To Scotland
The Frasers Are Going Home
Jamie and Claire were eager to return to Scotland for all of Outlander season 7, part 1, but something always managed to get in the way. However, they finally got their wish when Jamie was asked to accompany Brigadier-Genera Simon Fraser’s body back to his homeland. This wouldn’t be a permanent journey—Jamie and Claire already staked out where they want to build their new house back on Fraser’s Ridge. However, the Scottish setting in Outlander season 7, part 2, will surely make for a heartwarming reunion.
