8 Power Rangers Characters We Wish Had Appeared More On The Show

Summary

  • Some iconic Power Rangers characters like Tanya, Ryan, and Cam deserved more appearances.
  • Characters like Andros, Ryan, and Jen displayed significant character growth and had compelling backstories.
  • Most Rangers returned to at least one crossover, but some deserved to show up way more than that.

The Power Rangers universe has seen a lot of characters after 30 seasons, but while it is understandable that not everyone can come back all the time, some heroes and villains should have appeared more on the show. One of the greatest strengths of the Power Rangers franchise’s timeline is how most series take place in the same universe. As a result, there have been dozens of Power Rangers team-up episodes in which characters from previous seasons got to return.

Most Power Rangers characters appeared in at least one crossover after their respective season ended. Still, some names showed up in more than one crossover, while others never returned after their seasons. Compared to legends like Tommy Oliver and Adam Park, who got to return in different eras of the franchise, some Rangers did not appear nearly enough as they deserved.

8 Red Ranger Andros

Power Rangers in Space

Considered one of the best Red Rangers of all time, In Space Andros was one of the faces of the franchise in the 1990s. Despite having been a recurring character in only one season, Andros is among the most recognizable and beloved Power Rangers characters. Andros was the first Power Rangers character with a meaningful backstory that went beyond the usual “Angel Groove teenager recruited by Zordon” trope. Instead, Andros was already the Red Ranger when viewers met him. The In Space Red Ranger had his own mission and didn’t work well with others at first.

Andros continued to evolve as a character throughout In Space and learned how to be a team player and a leader. He also got to save his sister, Karone, although the price for it was helping Zordon sacrifice himself. After “Countdown to Destruction, Part 2,” Andros would only appear in three other episodes. The character returned for the two-part crossover with Lost Galaxy, during which there was a rematch against the Psycho Rangers. He would then appear in the franchise’s 10th anniversary special, “Forever Red,” during which Andros and Tommy put together a team of Red Rangers.

Power Rangers In Space (1998)

Power Rangers In Space is the sixth season of the Power Rangers franchise, airing in 1998. The show follows the remaining Power Rangers, Andros, Carlos, Ashley, Cassie, and T.J., as they flee their home planet of KO-35 and attempt to find the legendary Phantom Ranger, Zordon, and Alpha 5.

7 Yellow Ranger Tanya

Power Rangers Zeo/Power Rangers Turbo

Tanya was introduced in Mighty MorphinAlien Rangers, a mini-season that bridged the end of Mighty Morphin and the beginning of Zeo. With Karan Ashley, who played Aisha in Power Rangers, about to leave the show, the series needed a new Yellow Ranger ahead of the transition into Zeo. During her quest for the Zeo crystal, Aisha met a girl in the past named Tanya. To save Tanya from a disease for which the cure would only be found years later, Aisha, now a former Ranger, sent Tanya to the present.

In “A Zeo Beginning,” Billy, the original Blue Ranger, gave up on his Zeo crystal and decided to only help the team from the sidelines. With five crystals available, Tanya joined Tommy, Kat, Rocky, and Adam to become a Power Ranger. She would continue to be the Yellow Ranger until the first half of Turbo, after which most of the cast was replaced with new actors. Unfortunately, Tanya never appeared after Turbo. Tanya was sadly the only one of the Zeo/Turbo Rangers not to ever appear on the show again, not even in the Once & Always special.

6 Red Quantum Ranger Eric Myers

Power Rangers Time Force

Although the Quantum Ranger had two appearances on the show after the end of the Time Force, such a great character deserved to show up more. Eric Myers was introduced at the beginning of Time Force as a member of the Silver Guardians, a private task force put together by Mr. A. Collins. Their goal was to deal with the same threats the Power Rangers did and prove that humanity did not need help from superheroes to face the monsters. Eric had once been Wes Collins’ best friend during college, yet they grew apart.

Eric believed that Wes was a spoiled child and did not deserve to be a Power Ranger. Their dynamic became even more interesting when Eric stole the Quantum Morpher and became a Red Ranger himself. The idea of an anti-hero Red Ranger who was not evil but did not play by the same rules as the rest of the Rangers made Eric into one of the most fascinating characters in the franchise. He would return for the crossover with the Wild Force Rangers, “Reinforcements from the Future,” as well as for “Forever Red.”

5 Green Ranger Cam Watanabe

Power Rangers Ninja Storm

Son of Sensei Watanabe, Cam Watanabe never thought he would become a Power Ranger. For multiple episodes, Cam was the “guy in the chair,” someone who would support the Rangers from the sidelines but never join the action. Still, deep down, Cam knew that he had what it took to become a Power Ranger. Compared to Shane, Tori, and Dustin, the three of whom had presumably become Rangers by pure luck, Cam was far more prepared to receive a morpher. This caused some tension between him and his father, who served as this season’s “Zordon.”

Cam eventually became a Power Ranger after going through a journey of self-discovery in the past thanks to time travel shenanigans. He reemerged as the Green Samurai Ranger, the sixth Ranger of Ninja Storm. With one of the coolest Green Ranger designs since Tommy Oliver’s first Power Rangers form, Cam combined the experience of someone whose father was a sensei with an ancient Ranger power. Sadly, Cam would only appear in two episodes after Ninja StormDino Thunder’s “Thunder Storm” parts 1 and 2. The only Ninja Storm character to appear after “Thunder Storm” was Tori in Operation Overdrive.

Power Rangers Ninja Storm is a television series that follows the adventures of three teenage students, Shane, Tori, and Blake, who become the new generation of Power Rangers. Trained by Sensei Kanoi, they use their unique ninja skills to fight against the evil forces of Lothor, an alien warlord who seeks to conquer Earth.

4 The Psycho Rangers

Power Rangers in Space/Power Rangers Lost Galaxy

The Psycho Rangers were among the best Power Rangers villains, having appeared for the first time in Power Rangers in Space’s “Rangers Gone Psycho.” A departure from previous evil Rangers like Mighty Morphin’s Tommy, the Psycho Rangers were not brainwashed or tricked into being evil. In fact, they were no longer human. The Psycho Rangers were a manifestation of evil itself, born with the only purpose of causing pain and destruction. They were tasked by Astronema to destroy the In Space Rangers, which they almost did more than once.

Even after they were defeated the first time, the Psycho Rangers returned in even scarier forms. They also showed up in Power RangersLost Galaxy, during which the Psycho Rangers were brought back in their original forms. “To The Tenth Power” marked the final appearance of the Psycho Rangers as a team on the show, although Psycho Pink would still appear in “The Power of Pink” and “Protect the Quasar Saber.” Recently, BOOM! Studios’ Power Rangers comics have revisited the Psycho Rangers and even added a new member to the team – Psycho Green.

3 Titanium Ranger Ryan Mitchell

Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue

Ryan Mitchell is the quintessential sixth Ranger in Power Rangers. The Titanium Ranger started as a villain, joined the team after realizing he was being tricked by the monsters, and would then show up in just a handful of episodes. Ryan followed the “sixth Ranger playbook” in its entirety, yet his appearances on Lightspeed Rescue were always exciting. As one of the most mature Power Rangers seasons, Lightspeed Rescue gave Ryan a very dark backstory. After an almost fatal car accident, Ryan was saved by Diabolico and led to believe his father had chosen to save his sister over him.

Ryan Mitchell was raised by the Demons and hoped to get revenge on his father. He was sent to steal the Titanium Morpher, which made him into the Titanium Ranger. Fortunately, Ryan remembered what happened the night Diabolico took him and decided to join the Power Rangers. Interestingly, Ryan was an original Power Rangers character, meaning he didn’t have a counterpart in any of the Super Sentai shows. The Titanium Ranger’s only unmasked appearance after Lightspeed Rescue was in Wild Force’s “Return of Lightspeed.”

The show follows a team of five rescue workers who become superheroes known as the Lightspeed Rescue Power Rangers, tasked with saving the world from demonic forces led by the evil Diabolico.

2 Pink Ranger Jen Scotts

Power Rangers Time Force

One of the best Power Rangers seasons of all time, Time Force gave the franchise some of its greatest characters. This includes Jen Scott, whose only appearance after Time Force was in Wild Force’s “Reinforcements from the Future.” Given that Eric and Wes appeared in “Forever Red,” plus the fact that Wes returned for “Dimensions in Danger,” it is disappointing that Jen was never to be seen again after “Reinforcements from the Future.” Although Power RangersHyperForce acknowledged Jen’s character, the Time Force Pink Ranger deserved to show up again on screen.

8 Best Power Rangers Characters Who Didn’t Appear In The Original Show

Mighty Morphin may be Power Rangers’ most iconic season, but some of the best characters in the franchise only debuted after the original show ended.

Jen was the first and so far only Pink Ranger to lead a Power Rangers team. Following the death of Red Ranger Alex, who was also Jen’s fiancé, at the hands of Ransik, the Time Force Rangers went back to 2001. There, they had to get used to living in a very different era from the one they knew to track down and capture Ransik and his followers. Jen had to learn how to be a leader while also learning how to work with Wes, who happened to look exactly like Alex but without the discipline and experience.

1 Yellow Ranger Minh Kwan

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always

A very new addition to the Power Rangers universe, Minh was introduced in Mighty MorphinPower Rangers: Once & Always. The Netflix special was designed not only to celebrate Power Rangers’ 30th anniversary but also to be a homage to Thuy Trang, who played Trini in Mighty Morphin and died in 2001. Once & Always also ended up being a homage to Jason David Frank, who did not participate in the special and passed away on November 19, 2022. The story of Once & Always was centered on Minh, Trini’s daughter, following the death of her mother.

Minh technically appeared in
Cosmic Fury
but with her helmet on.

Minh wanted revenge against Rita Repulsa, but thanks to the original Black Ranger Zack and the original Blue Ranger Billy, she realized being a Ranger had nothing to do with vengeance. When Minh understood what it meant to be a Power Ranger, she was able to use her mother’s morpher to become the newest Mighty Morphin Yellow Ranger. With no announced plans for a Once & Always sequel, plus the possibility of a Power Rangers reboot series, it does not seem like Minh will return any time soon, which is disappointing.
