U2 bassist Adam Clayton and his wife of 10 years, Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho, have ‘amicably divorced’.
The 64-year-old rocker and lawyer Mariana, thought to be 45, have been married since 2013 when they tied the knot in a low-key Dublin ceremony, before jetting off to France for a bigger bash.
They will co-parent their six-year-old daughter, Alba, who was born four years into their marriage.
Sharing a statement announcing the news, the pair said both would be ‘fully involved’ in Alba’s care.
A spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘After more than 10 years of marriage, musician Adam Clayton and lawyer Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho have amicably divorced.
‘Both will continue to be fully involved in the care of their daughter and they request that the family’s privacy be respected.’
Adam was previously engaged to supermodel Naomi Campbell, who previously looked back fondly on their relationship.
‘Good memories,’ she said when asked about their 1994 romance in an interview with the Irish Independent.
‘I went to see the concert in LA, and I’m friends with the whole band. The whole band were great. Their kids are all grown up. It’s nice to know people for so long and still have a relationship.
‘I won’t discuss my private life. I only have very positive things to say about him. I am very proud of Adam,’ she said.
The bassist was also previously engaged to record company executive Susie Smith, who he proposed to on Valentine’s Day 2006 after eight years together.
However, a year into their engagement the pair broke up in what friends described at the time as an ‘amicable split’, according to the Irish outlet.
The musician first became a father in 2010, when he welcomed a son from a previous relationship.
Adam and Mariana’s French wedding party was attended by fellow U2 members – Bono and The Edge (David Howell Evans) – alongside supermodel Christy Turlington and other stars.
The band – with drummer Bram van den Berg in place of original member Larry Mullen Jr – have been busy performing their U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere residency in Las Vegas since September, having wrapped up last month.
Original drummer Larry underwent neck surgery prior to U2’s run of Las Vegas shows, but managed to attend on the penultimate night of the residency – not on stage, but in the audience.
‘Not since October 1978 have we played shows without Larry Mullen Jr.,’ Bono told the crowd, as per Variety.
‘That is the man who pinned the note on the notice board at Mount Temple Comprehensive School all those years ago,’ he added, referring to the ‘musicians wanted’ poster which saw them form in 1976.
‘And we are very grateful that he did and that he’s here with us tonight. We wish him a speedy, speedy, speedy recovery. We love you, Larry Mullen Jr.’
