One of the stars of the hit reality TV show 90 Day Fiancé – David Murphey – has died.
Murphey, who best known for appearing on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, had been experiencing health issues prior to his death at 66 years old.
The reality star’s family posted a statement on his Instagram account Wednesday confirming that he had died in Las Vegas, Nevada after being diagnosed with liver cancer a year ago.
The statement his family posted shared that Murphey was a ‘veteran, small business owner and software engineer.’
They also said he had recently retired from the Clark County Treasurer’s office in Nevada, and worked for H&R Block and IGT.
‘He was also well known for his time as a cast member on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days,’ they wrote.
‘His time on the show allowed him to connect with viewers, see the world, and share his experiences with his thousands of followers on Instagram.’
‘He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fans. David has survived by his two sisters and his cat Gamera. The family asked for privacy during this difficult time.’
The statement also suggested his fans and followers make a donation to The Animal Foundation in his name, to honour his love of animals
‘As many knew, David had a fierce love for cats,’ they wrote.
‘He always made an effort to adopt cats and give them a good loving home. David’s choice for adopting was from The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas.
‘For friends and fans who want to help, we ask that you honor his memory by making a donation to The Animal Foundation in his name.’
Fans of the reality show will remember David from season four of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, where he met his girlfriend Lana – who many fans believed was an elaborate catfish.
David, who was 60 at the time of the series, claimed on the show that his love – who lived in Ukraine and was 27 – was real and that he’d spoken to her on the phone and through video chat.
He’d flown from Las Vegas to Ukraine multiple times to meet her but she never showed up until, to the surprise of many fans, she did.
The couple had met on the dating app Anastasia Date seven years prior to the show’s filming.
Murphey proposed to Lana in 2019 but the pair eventually split up.
