Robbie Williams was distraught on Sunday after a stroll through London revealed that he has become almost unrecognisable despite being one of the UK’s most successful artists.
The Angels singer, 50, shot to fame in the 90s as a member of the pop group Take That and went on to see overwhelming worldwide success with his solo career. However, a recent park stroll has him concerned that his star power has worn off.
Over the weekend, Robbie’s wife, Ayda Field, 45, took to Instagram to share a video of the singer walking through Hyde Park wearing an eye-catching pink ensemble complete with bedazzled sunglasses.
‘We are walking back through Hyde Park. I am dressed completely in pink. I have got pink sneakers on. I have got diamanté sunglasses, and absolutely nobody has recognised me or has bothered me, and I really need them too,’ Robbie said.
He added, ‘It was not like this in the Nineties.’
The couple shared three other videos from the day, including one of Robbie relaxing on the grass and saying hello to people as they passed by and another getting ice cream as they watched a group of rollerbladers who were playing his hit song, Let Me Entertain You.
Still, no one recognised him.
Thankfully for the star, when he and Ayda were walking home, one fan approached him and asked for a photo.
Appearing chuffed with himself, the singer smiled as he said, ‘Back in the game’.
On Tuesday, the couple took to the streets of Kensington to continue their experiment, and they were pleased to report far more success.
Wearing an American Football League jersey with ‘Robbie’ emblazoned on the back, fans flocked to get a picture with the Rock DJ singer on the street.
Robbie grinned as he told Ayda, ‘Back in the game’, while she chuckled as she told him, ‘It’s happening boo’.
The singer has had an impressive 34-year career. Having first found fame in the group Take That between 1990 and 1995, Robbie was catapulted into international stardom upon launching his solo career and debut album in 1997.
Titled, Life Thru a Lens, the album debuted at number 11 on the UK charts and saw little to no international success. That is until he released his fourth single from the record, Angels.
The single helped the album dominate charts around the world and become the 58th best-selling album in the UK, selling more than three million copies.
In the years after, Robbie’s musical success went from strength to strength, earning him many accolades along the way.
On top of two Grammy nominations and 25 MTV Europe Music Award nominations, of which he won seven, the singer has made history by winning the most Brit awards of any UK artist.
Having been nominated 40 times, both as a member of Take That and as a solo artist, he has won a total of 18 times, including winning best British male artist four times and outstanding contribution to music twice.
Robbie has also seen global success, selling over 75million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
Some of the star’s biggest shows have seen 375,000 people attend.
