Former EastEnders star Lindsey Coulson is reportedly joining the cast of Waterloo Road.

The star, best known for her role as Carol Jackson in the BBC One soap, is set to be swapping Walford for Waterloo Road’s school halls as their new headteacher.

Lindsey portrayed Carol on and off from 1993-2015. Carol said goodbye to Albert Square after brother Max (Jake Wood) was arrested for Lucy Beale’s murder.

Fans of Waterloo Road know comedian Jason Manford’s character Mr Savage is the current headteacher of the establishment, leaving many wondering what will lead to the newcomer’s departure after such a short period of time.

‘Lindsey’s thrilled to be joining the show’, a source told The Sun.

‘She’s playing the new headteacher and it’s a great role for her. The show is really going from strength to strength.

‘She’s a real powerhouse actress and is having a great time.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Waterloo Road for a comment.

As a result of Lindsey’s new role, this sadly decreases her chance of re-joining the cast of EastEnders, something fans have hoped for ever since a variety of returns – including Carol’s ex David Wicks – were announced.

‘I think Steve will be, if not the most memorable, one of the most memorable headteachers at Waterloo Road because of what ends up happening,’ Jason teased when the latest series of the drama began.

‘I definitely feel like people are going to see Jason in a brand new light, especially when this series airs, because I’ve seen bits of it and I think he’s phenomenal in it,’ co-star Adam Thomas enthused, discussing Jason’s arrival to the show.

‘Him being a comedian, I think people are definitely going to see a different side to him.’

‘Donte is put in a very sticky situation,’ he said. ‘Steve tells Donte something and Donte doesn’t know what to do. He wants to do what’s best for Steve but also he needs to do what’s right. So, it’s very difficult.’
