Pokémon Go Eevee Evolutions: How to Evolve Eevee

Guide on Eevee Evolutions in Pokémon Go: In the Pokémon games, Eevee can evolve into different types called Eeveelutions. It happens when certain conditions are met, like using special items, having a high happiness level, knowing specific moves, or evolving at a particular time. Fans love these Eeveelutions! In Pokémon Go, evolving Pokémon with Candy is easier. You can’t use elemental stones to evolve Eevee into Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon anymore. The same goes for evolving Umbreon, Espeon, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Sylveon.

Once you have enough Eevee Candy, check out our Buddy Adventure and Lure Modules guides. These guides will help you understand how they affect the evolution of your Eevee. We also have a cool trick that involves using a memorable Eevee name to get the specific evolution you want.

Pokémon Go Eeveelutions: How to evolve Eevee into evolutions Sylveon, Leafeon, Glaceon, Umbreon, Espeon, Vaporeon, Flareon and Jolteon with these Eevee names

Let me explain how Eevee evolutions work. To evolve Eevee without any interference, feed it 25 Eevee candy. It will then randomly evolve into either Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon.

Players have found a trick to choose any of the Eevee evolutions (Sylveon, Leafeon, Glaceon, Espeon, Umbreon, Flareon, Jolteon, or Vaporeon) by using specific Eevee names.

  1. Rename Eevee as Kira to evolve into fairy-type Sylveon
  2. Rename Eevee as Linnea to evolve into leaf-type Leafeon
  3. Rename Eevee as Rea to evolve into ice-type Glaceon
  4. Rename Eevee as Sakura to evolve into psychic-type Espeon
  5. Rename Eevee as Tamao to evolve into dark-type Umbreon
  6. Rename Eevee as Rainer to evolve into water-type Vaporeon
  7. Rename Eevee as Sparky to evolve into lightning-type Jolteon
  8. Rename Eevee as Pyro to evolve into fire-type Flareon

Please note that the trick can only be used once per evolution type. Therefore, selecting Eevees with the highest CP values is essential before evolving them into your desired type.

Thanks to Redwineandbeer from Reddit for confirming Sylveon’s nickname.

However, there is another way of getting the desired types for certain Eevee evolutions.

How to evolve Eevee into Sylveon in Pokémon Go

Sylveon was added to Pokémon Go on May 25th, 2021, during the Luminous Legends Y event.

To evolve an Eevee into a Sylveon, follow these simple steps: 1. Change its nickname to Kira. 2. Make sure you have at least 25 Eevee Candy. 3. Use the nickname and Candy to evolve Eevee into Sylveon.

Before evolving your Eevee into Sylveon, check if the silhouette of Sylveon is on the evolve button. If it’s not, your Eevee may evolve into a different Eeveelution.

If this happens to you, just close Pokémon Go and open it again to fix it.

To evolve Eevee into Sylveon, you need to earn 70 Buddy hearts with it. This means your chosen Eevee should be at the Great Buddy Level. You can switch your Buddy Pokémon without losing progress towards Sylveon. Feel free to change your buddy whenever you want.

You’ll still need 25 Eevee Candy.

To evolve Eevee into Sylveon in the main-line series, you need to have a high friendship level with Eevee and make sure it knows a fairy-type move.

There is no need to worry about Eevee evolving into Espeon or Umbreon. According to gamewith_pkgo on Twitter, Sylveon will be available as a separate evolution option. This means you can choose the correct Eeveelution.

To get a shiny or flower crown Sylveon, you can evolve a shiny or flower crown Eevee.

Alternate Eevee evolution methods for Leafeon, Glaceon, Umbreon and Espeon

In Generation 4, Leafeon and Glaceon have a different way to evolve from Eevee. You can use a Mossy Lure to evolve Eevee into Leafeon, or a Glacial Lure to evolve Eevee into Glaceon. When you’re near the PokéStop with the Lure on, select your Eevee and evolve it.

In addition, Umbreon and Espeon from Generation 2 also have an alternative way for Eevee evolutions. Walk your Eevee as a Buddy for 10km to get the evolution you want. Then, evolve it at night for Umbreon or during the day for Espeon.

To make it work, follow these steps: Walk 10k and earn two Candies. Keep Eevee as your Buddy when evolving. Make sure it’s either day or night in the game. Thanks to Daviebruce72 on Reddit for clarifying.

The naming trick can only be used once for each evolution type. It makes it a helpful method to obtain a second Espeon or Umbreon reliably.

What is the best Eevee evolution in Pokémon Go?

To maximize your high-stat Eevee, choose the best evolution available. It depends on your needs, but some options are more valuable.

The top Eevee evolutions in Pokémon Go are Sylveon, Espeon, Umbreon and Glaceon.

Umbreon for Battle Leagues

Sylveon and Espeon are great Pokémon of the Fairy and Psychic types. While they may not be the strongest (especially compared to Legendaries), Eevee has one advantage – it’s easy to find. It means you’ll have plenty of chances to catch Eevee and collect Eevee Candy. To complete any team, Sylveon and Espeon are great budget options for Fairy and Psychic types.

If you’re looking for a budget pick among Eevee’s evolutions, Glaceon is a good choice. It could be better, but it’s one of the few ice types available year-round. Umbreon is an excellent choice for lower Battle Leagues like the Great League. It has attacks that are super effective against Ghost and Psychic-type Pokémon. It can also hold its own against fairy attacks, common in Battle League.

What you need to know about Eevee Evolution names in Pokémon Go

Why choose Sakura, Tamao, Sparky, Rainer, and Pyro? The Eevee brothers are characters from the Pokémon anime. They meet Ash and his friends in episode 40 to show their evolved Eevee forms.

Espeon and Umbreon get their nicknames from the Pokémon anime, but they are human characters, not Pokémon. In “Trouble’s Brewing,” the 26th episode of Pokémon: Johto League Champions, Ash and his friends encounter the Kimono sisters in Ecruteak City—Sakura partners with Espeon, and Tamao partners with Umbreon, each sister with an Eeveelution.

If you’ve played Pokémon Silver, Gold, Crystal, HeartGold, or SoulSilver, you might remember battling the Kimono sisters!

Eevee evolutions are available in Pokémon Go

Leafeon and Glaceon get their names from trainers in Pokémon Sun and Moon, not the anime. You’ll meet two trainers while trying to earn the Eevium Z. Linnea has Leafeon, and Rea has Glaceon.

Sylveon’s nickname, Kira, comes from an Eevium Z trainer. If you’re a Death Note fan, this name will be unique.

After naming your Eevee with one of the above names, it’s a good idea to close and reopen the app to ensure the name change has been applied. It is essential because the servers can sometimes be unreliable.

To evolve Eevee into your desired type, ensure the new name is correct. Then, feed it Candy just like you would with any other Pokémon.
