e-Invoice QR Code & QR Code Verification

The GST network created a very effective e-invoice verification application, realising the importance of accurate and efficient e-invoicing; it allows consumers to use the visible QR code to authenticate e-invoices. With this software, GSTN hopes to streamline procedures and guarantee user comfort. The QR code must be on every e-invoice to provide easier access to qualifying GST invoices. Continue reading to learn more about how to verify an e-invoice using the QR code verification app.

What is a QR Code on an e-Invoice?

A quick response (QR) code, or two-dimensional barcode, is a machine-readable matrix barcode readable using a scanner. It includes details on the associated object, such as an electronic invoice with a QR code. The Invoice Registration Portal (IRP) digitally signs and sends the QR code with the e-invoice.

What are the Contents of a QR Code on an e-Invoice?

The following crucial invoice parameters are included in the QR code:

  • GSTIN of the supplier;
  • Recipient’s or buyer’s GSTIN
  • Invoice Number
  • Invoice Date
  • Total invoice value (gross tax and taxable amount)
  • The number of line items.
  • HSM code – Main item code (the line item with the highest taxable value)
  • Invoice Reference Number
  • IRP’s digital signature

Why is QR Code Added to an e-Invoice?

The e-invoicing system mandates that relevant taxpayers upload specific types of tax invoices, such as taxable invoices and credit and debit notes, to the e-invoice portal or IRP for verification and authentication. Once the invoice information has been uploaded, the IRP checks them, digitally signs the invoice, and returns it as an e-invoice with the signed QR code and the Invoice Reference Number (IRN). Additionally, while sending the e-invoice to the buyer, the taxpayer must ensure the QR code is included.

If a valid QR is not printed on the e-invoice, all related documents, like the e-way bill, will be considered invalid, leading to penalties, and the purchaser will also not be able to submit a valid input tax credit claim. An e-invoice with a valid QR code assists buyers in determining the authenticity of an e-invoice.

How To Verify a QR Code?

The e-invoice verification system enables the tax officer and taxpayer to verify the invoice data by scanning the QR code. The tax officers can also use this number to confirm the accuracy of the invoice and ensure the IRP has received and acknowledged it adequately.
