Dwight Yorke has suggested former side Manchester United make a move to bring Romelu Lukaku back to the club this summer.
Lukaku joined United from Everton in the summer of 2017 for a fee of £75million, a fee that still stands as the club’s third most expensive signing.
He enjoyed an impressive first campaign in Manchester under Jose Mourinho, scoring goals 27 in all competitions, but slowly drifted out of favour, scoring just 15 times in 45 appearances in his final season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Lukaku joined Inter in 2019, enjoying a superb campaign back in Italy that earned him a move back to Chelsea the following year.
That spell also ended in disappointment with the Belgium international spending the last two seasons back in Italy on loan with Inter and Roma this season.
The 30-year-old has rediscovered some form with 18 goals in all competitions but it is not expected to revive his hopes back at Stamford Bridge.
But given Lukaku’s scoring record, Yorke believes signing the Belgian on loan would represent ‘very good business’ for his former club.
‘Romelu Lukaku is absolutely still good enough to play for a top-six club,’ Yorke told OLBG. ‘I think Man United or Tottenham should take Lukaku on a loan deal and agree to pay a certain amount of his wages.
‘As much as people say about Lukaku, he has a very impressive goalscoring record and he doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves.
‘If you have a fired-up Lukaku who wants to play for you, he’s a match-winner and a handful for any opponent in the world.
‘Man United have invested heavily in Rasmus Hojlund, but if you want to compete with the best then Lukaku is that player who can score 15 to 20 goals in a season, which is priceless and hard to find in today’s game.
‘Lukaku is still only 30 years old and a proven goalscorer, I think whoever gets him on a loan deal will have done good and subtle business.’
United are expected to bring in another striker this summer to ease the strain on Rasmus Hojlund, who has scored 13 times during his first season in England.
