Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) faces another reminder time is running out for him in Coronation Street as he’s told he can no longer eat solid food.
A few weeks ago in the ITV soap, Paul opened up to Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) about the prospect of ending his life when the time comes.
Paul, who has motor neurone disease, said he doesn’t want to reach a point where he feels like a ‘hostage inside his own body’ and believes assisted dying is the best approach for the final part of his life.
Initially, Billy was horrified to hear these comments from Paul. As a vicar, Billy believes that life is precious and given to us from God, and deciding when it ends is wrong.
Despite the view, Billy eventually told Paul that he would help him end his life when the time comes, not wanting his beloved husband to suffer against his will.
Coming up, following news of her uni placement, Summer (Harriet Bibby) books her flight to Boston and Billy agrees to cook a roast dinner by way of celebration.
Meanwhile, as Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) and Paul sit down to another meeting with the speech therapist, they are told Paul’s speech and ability to eat solid food have deteriorated and suggests it might be time to use a feeding tube.

Returning home, Paul and Bernie reveal the difficult news that Paul can no longer eat solid food as there’s a chance he might choke.
As Billy dishes up the roast, Summer, Bernie and Todd (Gareth Pierce) tuck in while Paul sets about his bowl of pureed food.
Afterwards, as Billy, Summer, Bernie and Todd clear away the plates, Paul is left fighting back the tears, another devastating reminder that the motor neurone disease is taking over his entire body, and he can’t do anything about it.
