Nineties pop icon Ricky Martin has returned to TV acting in Palm Royale after a six-year break and fans have been floored as he has appeared to turn back time.
The Livin’ La Vida Loca singer, 52, plays a bartender at an exclusive resort in Palm Beach where Kristen Wiig’s status-obsessed character is desperate to infiltrate in the Apple TV Plus drama set in the late 60s.
Also starring Laura Dern as the anti-capitalist daughter of a multimillionaire, the ten-part series has drawn comparisons to the camp deliciousness of Desperate Housewives and the biting social satire of The White Lotus.
After the first three episodes landed on the streamer on Wednesday, fans have been whipped up into a frenzy over Ricky’s appearance performance as Robert Diaz, his first TV show since The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
X account @real_keepi was among those fawning over the She Bangs singer’s agelessness, remaring: ‘Ricky Martin is so handsome, he’s like a fine wine #PalmRoyale.’
Agreeing, @thecityboi added: ‘Omg is this Ricky Martin in #PalmRoyale???? He looking so fine still.’
@mcgees96 also commented: ‘Laura Dern giving the gays everything they want including an all star cast and enough shirtless Ricky Martin to please a small horde of thirsters #PalmRoyale.’
Thirsting over social media is one thing, but in 2016 a fan once stumped up an impressive £63,400 to lock lips with the Puerto Rican music legend.
It was all in the name of the charity, with the money Ana Paola Diniz paid donated to the amfAR benefit in Sao Paulo.
Fans of the Shake Your Bon-Bon popstar have even more reason to be excited as he has teased he wants to throw everything into his on-screen career.
’I am 52 years old, and I think that this is only the beginning,’ he promised Harpers Bazaar.
‘There is so much ahead of me, and I feel it from the bottom of my heart. My gut tells me every morning: “Get ready because what’s coming is only going to be better”.’
Known as the King of Latin Pop, the father-of-two has always straddled music with acting, including appearances on General Hospital and Netflix’s Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey.
For The Assassination of Gianni Versace, Ricky was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.
According to Palm Royale’s synopsis: ‘Palm Royale is a true underdog story that follows Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig) as she endeavors to break into Palm Beach high society.
‘As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have-nots, Palm Royale asks the same question that still baffles us today: “How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has?”
‘Set during the powder keg year of 1969, Palm Royale is a testament to every outsider fighting for their chance to truly belong.’
Palm Royale is available to stream on Apple TV Plus.
