Taskmaster fans have been left fuming after being turned away from a sold-out live event despite having tickets.

The comedy panel game show was hosting a special one-off show in New York on Monday night, hosted by Greg Davies and his assistant and show creator, Alex Horne.

At the event the first episode of the upcoming season 17 was shown, three days before it premieres in the UK.

However, disaster struck before it even began, with ticket holders failing to get inside after the venue sold more tickets than available.

Soon after the show’s official social media pages posted an explanation.

‘Thank you to everyone who turned up at Rodney’s Comedy Club to see us in New York tonight. We were surprised and overjoyed at the amount of you who turned up. Due to a ticketing error with the venue, more tickets were sold than the venue had capacity for,’ the statement began.

‘We tried to fit in as many as possible, and we’re hugely sorry to anyone who had a ticket and couldn’t get in. We’re processing refunds to those who couldn’t get in as soon as we can as well as giving them priority tickets to the next event we do here.

‘We’ll make it our task to come back to NY very soon!’

However, some fans expressed their devastation at missing out.

‘The fact that this happened to me… perhaps the greatest flop of my lifetime…’ Adam posted on X.

‘I still cannot believe Rodney’s just let us all stand in line after starting the show and not telling anyone. Plz never work with them again’ fellow ticket-holder Shannon shared.

‘I’m really upset to hear people were turned away last night,’ Becky added.

The upcoming season of the series, which has been airing since 2015, will star Joanne McNally, John Robins, Nick Mohammed, Sophie Willan, and Steve Pemberton, and was filmed in front of a studio audience in London in September last year.

It has already been renewed for another five seasons.

The first-ever Junior spin-off will air this year, with previous participants Mike Wozniak and Rose Matafeo taking on hosting duties.

Taskmaster returns on Thursday at 9pm on Channel 4.
