The 1% show host and comedian Lee Mack is best known for his starring role in long-running BBC sitcom Not Going Out and panel show Would I Lie To You?

However, he keeps his private life relatively quiet – making it difficult to discern truth from lie during his often-outrageous claims on Would I Lie To You?

The comedian, aged 55, rose to fame during the early 2000s; creating and starring in the sitcom Not Going Out in 2006.

Since then, Lee has appeared on the popular Channel 4 gameshow Taskmaster and Sky One’s Duck Quacks Don’t Echo and They Think It’s All Over. He also hosts the gameshow The 1% Club, which is currently airing on ITV1.

He has appeared as a team captain opposite David Mitchell on Would I Lie To You? since 2007.

Lee was born in Blackburn, Lancashire – above the pub where he was also raised – and named Lee Gordon McKillop.

Since his rise to fame, Lee starred on the BBC genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are? where he explored his Irish heritage, and discovered that he had a great-grandfather who was also a comedian, named Billy Mac.

Lee claims that he has Attention Hyperactivity Disorder – although this has never been verified with a formal diagnosis.

‘To me it is like eight or nine radio channels going off at once. Most people can tune into one, but you tend to tune into nine,’ Lee said, in a 2021 interview.

Speaking on his podcast, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Budda, Lee said: ‘We talked the other day with Roisin Conaty. Her sister met Tara and said ‘I assume you two have been together after you became a comedian and a bit of money.’

‘And I said ‘no, no, we met before I ever was a comedian when we were at university.’ And do you know what she said? ‘Did you save her life or something?’ I thought that’s an incredibly bold statement to make after five minutes of meeting someone!’

Does Lee Mack have any children?

Lee and Tara have three children together – Millie, Louie and Arlo. Their youngest child, Arlo, was born a year before their wedding in 2005.

Arlo appeared in a 2013 episode of Not Going Out, during the long-running sitcom’s Christmas special. However, this doesn’t mean that his family are dedicated viewers of their dad’s work.

‘They’re really not bothered whether it’s on or not. My wife doesn’t really watch it and although my eldest has just started to, it’s not his favourite show by a long way – and why would it be?’ Lee said.

He continued: ‘The only feedback I get from him is the occasional slightly arched eyebrow if he likes one of my character’s jokes. That’s high praise in my house.’
