It’s tight at the top of the Championship with just a couple of points covering the three teams battling for the two golden tickets which guarantee automatic promotion to the Premier League.

But if you think that’s a nail-biting scenario take a look at the other end of the table.

Rotherham have already been relegated but just five points separates Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday – the other two teams in the relegation zone, both on 42 points – and Swansea in 15th place.

A whopping nine clubs are fighting to stay in the second rung of English football and with five games and 15 points available expect a whole bundle of twists and turns.

It’s got to that stage of the season where the form book can be thrown into the dustbin as teams who have been on losing streaks suddenly play like Brazil at the 1970 World Cup.

Dropping into League One is an absolute disaster as it is almost certainly more difficult to gain a swift promotion to the Championship than it is to make an instant return to top flight.

Portsmouth are on the brink of promotion from League One but it has taken them 12 years in the wilderness struggling to get back to the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday will be dreading the prospect of being relegated just 12 months after being promoted and is this finally the year Birmingham fall through the trap door?

Blues are just 2/1 with Bet Victor to go down and Millwall could join them.

They are just two points and the same number of places above the cut off line and next on their plate is a tough Tuesday night battle with leaders Leicester.

The Foxes are just 4/9 with bet365 to gain promotion as champions after a late winner at home to Birmingham with Leeds 3/1 and Ipswich 5/1 with the same firm.

• Novak Djokovic won last year’s French Open when he beat Casper Ruud in straight sets in the final at Roland Garros. He ramps up his preparations to defend his crown at this week’s Monte-Carlo Masters and is 3/1 with Bet Victor to win the title.

• Qualifying for the World Snooker Championship is underway and Jimmy White can cause an upset by beating Martin Gould at 7/2 with Paddy Power and Betfair as he begins his bid to return to the big show.
