In a surprising pick up by Netflix, it appears the streaming giant has offered a rare lifeline to a previously cancelled wrestling show.

Rumours have been swirling around other beloved shows returning in a re-fresh of contracts and it seems Heels could be saved to fight another round.

The cult series had two beloved seasons before it was brutally axed, along with other Starz shows in late 2023.

Starring Arrow’s Stephen Amell and The Hunger GamesAlexander Ludwig, Netflix has now acquired the nonexclusive rights to the show.

That’s not to say a glorious rebirth has been green-lit but if subscribers flock to watch Heels’ existing seasons on the platform there is potential for more.

While nothing is confirmed, Alexander is just as excited as fans as he shared a screenshot of the news as per The Hollywood Reporter.

The 31-year-old actor and declared: ‘The fans have spoken. #Heels [is] beyond grateful for the tremendous support we have received from the die hard fans of this show.

‘It was a LABOR of love. Grateful all the hard work from our cast and crew is gonna continue to get seen ❤️ thank you.’

‘Dystopia for life!!!!!!!’ commented recurring cast member Mike O’Malley, referencing the fictional wrestling promotion Florida Wrestling Dystopia.

However, a future isn’t crystal cut for Heels as leading man Stephen has signed on to the pilot Suits spin-off since the cancellation, which is likely to be picked up for a full season.

Alexander is also eyeing up other projects and is tied to the six-episode MGM+ sci-fi drama Earth Abides, as top name on the call sheet.

The duo played wrestling brothers Jack and Ace Spade, respectively, with the Arrowverse star a dedicated WWE fan who would often do his own stunts.

Jack played the villain — a heel — to Ace’s hero or ‘face’ as the pair rivalled over their late father’s wrestling promotion, Duffy Wrestling League.

Infamously the second season ends on a huge cliffhanger for Jack after a brawl, with fans desperate to see more.

While it wasn’t a mainstream hit, the reviews were widely positive and fans have been praying for the return ever since.

Heels isn’t the only show which could see a second lease of life in this Netflix shakeup as speculation that the streamer’s short-lived Julie and the Phantoms could return.

The cast began sharing hints and feeding the rumours as creator Kenny Ortega was announced to have ended his contract with Netflix.

Fans of both shows have been begging for a miraculous recovery and this may be just the thing to get them back in the ring.
