Sussex Police sent out a romantic message in the hope of finding Callum Gower, 27, and his mum Caroline Sevier, 51

A fugitive and his mum who were on the run for six years have finally been caught thanks to a cheeky Valentine’s Day appeal from police.

Sussex Police played cupid and wrote a series of romantic messages in 2018 in the hope of finding Callum Gower, now 27, and his mum Caroline Sevier, 51.

The police force even offered a £500 reward for anyone who could ‘secure them a date’.

It seems to have worked because police arrested Gower and Sevier.

The post reads: ‘Where is our lost love from Hastings and Rye Callum Gower?

‘All we wanted was to spend some quality time with people who’ve been trying to avoid us lately.

‘Can you play cupid and help us secure a date with some of the county’s most wanted people? There’s every chance it will be back to our place for coffee.

‘We will be appealing for those who have broken our hearts to meet us for the date they owe us.’

A South African police source told The Sun: ‘Despite Mr Gower being very late for his date, Sussex Police are keen to rekindle the romance and move on.

‘They hope to spend at least a couple of years together this time.’

Gower and Sevier, who went missing following their arrests on drugs and firearms charges, were arrested in Cape Town in February.

They have both been in custody since then.

Gower will return to court on May 23 after his extradition to the UK is finalised.

The judge refused to release both Gower and Sevier on bail.
