A boy who died in a freak accident playing in a bouncy castle lifted by a wind gust has been identified as the son of a firefighter.

Bodhi Naff, 2, was named as the son of Karl Naff of the Phoenix Fire Department, and his wife Cristy.

While Bodhi and other children were playing in the bounce house, a ‘strong gust of wind’ picked it up and he suffered life-threatening injuries, said the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.

Bodhi was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

‘This devastating loss has left Karl and Cristy grappling with unimaginable grief,’ wrote a friend of the family, Ashley Al-Khouri, on the GoFundMe page.

He died as his parents are expecting a second child at the end of May, according to the GoFundMe page and the United Phoenix Firefighters.

‘Amidst their sorrow, they face the daunting task of preparing for the arrival of their newborn,’ wrote Al-Khouri.

Firefighters responded to the home near Casa Grande in Arizona around 5pm. Another child sustained non-life threatening injuries and was also transported for medical care.

Bodhi’s parents worked together for the fire department.

‘Karl and Cristy have been an integral part of Firehouse 25 family for many years including Rescue 25 and paramedic precepting,’ wrote United Phoenix Firefighters.

The sheriff’s office offered ‘heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the grieving family’.

The GoFundMe page had raised more than $172,000 as of Thursday evening.

The donations, Al-Khouri said, ‘will help Karl and Cristy focus on grieving their beloved Bodhi while preparing for the new chapter in their lives’.

Bodhi’s death comes five after a nine-year-old Florida girl playing with an obstacle course strap with other kids inside a gated community fell and died. One of two palm trees that the strap was fastened to collapsed, killing the girl and injuring two other children.
