Chris Hemsworth’s second Transformers casting makes his role in an upcoming 2024 movie confusing. Although Transformers: Rise of the Beasts performed poorly at the box office, the overarching Transformers franchise is still heading in a bold and fascinating direction. The next film in line is an animated flick titled Transformers One, which follows the early years of the Autobots and Decepticons and walks through all the events that led to Optimus Prime and Megatron’s fallout.

Transformers One is an exciting addition to the movie franchise not only because it focuses entirely on the titular Transformers characters but also because it has a star-studded voice casting. Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm are all a part of its roster, with Hemsworth and Tyree Henry voicing the main characters Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively. What makes Chris Hemsworth’s casting even more intriguing is that he could reportedly join the cast of the next live-action Transformers film as well.

Live-Action Optimus Prime Already Has The Perfect Voice Actor

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts may not have been as big of a hit as the early Michael Bay movies, but it perfectly paved the way for some exciting future live-action films. The movie ends with a scene that hints at a future collaboration between the Autobots and the G.I. Joe, marking the inception of a compelling toy franchise crossover. As per reports, Chris Hemsworth is in talks to become a part of the next live-action G.I. Joe/Transformers crossover movie, which is incredible news given how the actor has delivered some memorable performances in recent years.

Since Hemsworth is already voicing Optimus Prime in Transformers One, one might assume he will take on the same role in the live-action film. However, it seems unlikely that Chris Hemsworth will play Optimus Prime in the film because Peter Cullen has consistently voiced the Autobot leader in all the live-action Transformers films and 1986’s The Transformers: The Movie. The Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover film will likely continue this franchise casting trend and mark Cullen’s return as Prime, suggesting Hemsworth would play a different character.

Hemsworth Will Likely Be A G.I. Joe Character In The Next Live-Action Film

Considering how Chris Hemsworth is already voicing Optimus Prime in Transformers One, it is a little strange and baffling that he could play another character in the franchise’s next live-action film. However, since Transformers One is not a direct prequel to any of the live-action movies, the clear separation between the animated “prequel” and the live-action universe leaves room for casting flexibility, allowing Hemsworth to return as a different character in the Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover. Since Chris Hemsworth will almost certainly not playing Prime, it is hard not to speculate who he could portray.

Many of his past heroic roles suggest he would be perfect as one of the leading Joes. He could either be Duke or convincingly embody General Tomahawk. Since he has brilliantly portrayed Furiosa‘s antagonist, Dementus, he would also be a part of COBRA as the Cobra Commander or Serpentor. Regardless of what Chris Hemsworth plays in the next Transformers live-action movie, his involvement brings immense star power to the franchise and maintains some positive buzz around Transformers‘ future after Rise of the Beasts‘ underwhelming performance.
