The Conservative Party must ’embrace’ Nigel Farage in order to ‘unite the right’ following a disastrous few days on the campaign trail, Suella Braverman has claimed.

In an interview with The Times, the former home secretary said the Tories are a ‘broad church’, and should not exclude anyone who wants ‘Conservatives to get elected’.

The news comes following a snap poll which revealed Farage was the most popular candidate to succeed Rishi Sunak as leader of the Conservatives.

Sunak, meanwhile, has been accused of ‘dodging’ the media as he continues to face a fierce backlash over his decision to leave a D-Day commemoration service early last week, with reporters ‘not allowed anywhere near’ the PM as he knocked on doors in his Yorkshire constituency over the weekend.

Cabinet minister Mel Stride was forced to insist there was ‘no question’ that Sunak would stay on as leader of the Conservatives following rumours he was planning to quit before the general election on July 4.
