Cesc Fabregas is looking to raid Chelsea and sign one of the club’s most promising young players.

The former Spain international has made a promising start to his managerial career with Como where he masterminded last season’s promotion to Italy’s Serie A.

In a bid to boost his squad ahead of the new campaign, Fabregas wants to sign Alfie Gilchrist on loan, according to The Athletic.

The 20-year-old made a significant first team breakthrough last season under Mauiricio Pochettino last season and made 19 appearances in all competitions.

Indeed, such was Gilchrist’s impact that he earned cult hero status on account of his committed and combative displays which were rewarded with Chelsea’s Academy Player of the Year award.

Fabregas, meanwhile, is well aware of Gilchrist’s talents having paid a visit to Chelsea’s Cobham training ground last month, prior to Pochettino’s shock departure.

‘It’s difficult sometimes to acknowledge or have an opinion when you are not there to see what happened,’ said Fabregas on BBC Sounds’ Planet Premier League podcast. ‘Look, I was there actually. Funnily enough I went to London on the weekend.

‘First of all I had a good relationship with Mauricio. When we played against them I always felt that he was a really nice guy, a gentleman.

‘So I felt they won four games in a row, that was Friday [that he visited], two days before the end of the season, so everything is fun and good and relaxed around the training ground, last game of the season.
