A new Avengers team could be forming in Deadpool & Wolverine, comprising powerful heroes from across the multiverse in the MCU. Several cameos have already been teased for Deadpool & Wolverine, as Shawn Levy’s upcoming Phase 5 movie is set to bridge the gap between the MCU and Fox’s X-Men franchise. While Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will be the stars of the show, the prospect of several other heroes from various Marvel franchises appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine has spurred theories of a new superhero team forming.

These theories only increased after Ryan Reynolds shared a short clip of a flag adorned with the Avengers logo painted over with the anarchist symbol in June 2024. This was followed by a similar post that saw Reynolds in a hat decorated with the same symbol, reinforcing the idea that Deadpool and Wolverine could be bringing together a team of multiversal heroes in Deadpool & Wolverine. While this is yet to be confirmed, there are several powerful characters from Marvel’s live-action history who would be perfect for Deadpool’s multiversal Avengers team.

10 Wade Wilson’s Deadpool & James “Logan” Howlett’s Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine May Lead A New Avengers Team In The MCU’s Phase 5

The most obvious members of Deadpool & Wolverine’s multiversal Avengers team would be Deadpool and Wolverine themselves. Both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman debuted as their respective heroes in Fox’s X-Men franchise, though the version of Wolverine seen in Deadpool & Wolverine’s trailers is suspected to be from a different universe altogether, so as not to mess with the emotional ending of Logan. Kitted out with new superhero suits, these versions of Deadpool and Wolverine would make great Avengers leaders.

Through their experiences in Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds and Jackman’s titular heroes will gain an intimate knowledge of the multiverse, making them significant heroes in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. This will uniquely qualify them to build an Avengers team comprising rag-tag heroes from various realities. It’s suspected that Deadpool and Wolverine will be traveling through a number of timelines in their MCU debut, which could see them recruit a powerful group of allies to battle Cassandra Nova or an even greater villain.

9 Elektra Natchios

Jennifer Garner’s Elektra Is Already Confirmed To Be Returning

While Élodie Yung portrayed a popular iteration of Elektra Natchios in Netflix’s Defenders Saga, it was Jennifer Garner who was revealed to be returning as Elektra from 2003’s Daredevil movie and its 2005 sequel (via The Hollywood Reporter). Although Garner has since denied her involvement in Deadpool & Wolverine, her return offers a chance at redemption following her disappointing movie appearances. Garner’s Elektra would make a formidable asset to Deadpool and Wolverine’s multiversal Avengers team, despite not having any superhuman abilities.

Élodie Yung has expressed her interest in returning as Elektra in the MCU’s main continuity, which is possible after the Defenders Saga was made canon to the MCU.

Elektra’s mastery of martial arts and supreme weapons skills allow her to hold her own against more superpowered characters, similarly to how Black Widow and Hawkeye operated among the MCU’s original Avengers team. Last seen as a mercenary fighting the Hand, Elektra’s actions over the last two decades can be explored in Deadpool & Wolverine as she builds bonds with other heroes from various alternate realities. Since Garner has already been confirmed to be returning, Elektra is a clear candidate to join a multiversal Avengers team.

8 Maria Rambeau’s Captain Marvel (Or Binary)

A Multiverse Avengers Team Would Likely Feature Another Maria Rambeau Variant

Captain Marvel is one of the MCU’s strongest and most formidable heroes.

One of the most consistent characters featured throughout the MCU’s Multiverse Saga has been Lashana Lynch’s Maria Rambeau. First seen in 2019’s Captain Marvel as the titular hero’s best friend, Lynch has portrayed variants of Maria Rambeau in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels. These variants became Captain Marvel instead of Carol Danvers, with the version in The Marvels even being enhanced further into Binary. Her constant reappearances make her a likely character to show up in Deadpool & Wolverine.

A new variant of Maria Rambeau could be included as the Captain Marvel figure in Deadpool and Wolverine’s multiversal Avengers team. This would give the team a significant boost in power, as Captain Marvel is one of the MCU’s strongest and most formidable heroes. Back in March, Lynch revealed to Josh Wilding that she wasn’t sure when, or if, Maria Rambeau would return to the MCU, but Deadpool & Wolverine could present the perfect opportunity for her to come back and show off more of her impressive abilities.

I genuinely don’t know what’s next, but I think with where the franchise is going, it’s naturally going to be exciting. And I’m excited to see where it goes next.

7 Doctor Stephen Strange

Doctor Strange Is A Clear Candidate For A Multiversal Avengers Team

It’s possible that Deadpool and Wolverine’s multiversal Avengers team could feature a hero from Earth-616 in its line-up, and the most likely candidate for this role is Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. Following his adventures in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Doctor Strange has more knowledge about the multiverse than any other character in the MCU’s current timeline. Deadpool and Wolverine would surely want to pick his brains and use his remarkable skills for their multiversal Avengers.

Multiverse of Madness includes variations of Doctor Strange throughout the multiverse, each representing a different aspect of the Sorcerer Supreme.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s first official trailer may have already included a major hint towards Doctor Strange’s appearance in the movie. At the end of the trailer, the titular heroes jump into a portal that appears to have been created by a Master of the Mystic Arts. Of course, this may not have been Strange himself, but he is the face of the Mystic Arts, and the most prominent magic-user in the MCU, so it would make sense for him to meet Deadpool and Wolverine following their portal jump.

6 Peter Parker’s Spider-Man

Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man Is Rumored To Be Returning To The MCU

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has had dealings with the multiverse, but his current anonymity in the MCU means it’s unlikely he would be included in Deadpool and Wolverine’s multiversal Avengers team. Instead, Deadpool & Wolverine could present the perfect opportunity for Tobey Maguire to reprise his iconic role. Tobey Maguire portrayed Peter Parker in Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy, and returned in No Way Home. Following this, Maguire has been rumored to be reprising the role again, perhaps for Phase 6’s Avengers: Secret Wars.

Shawn Levy has recently stated that he would love to direct a Deadpool and Spider-Man team-up movie in the MCU following his work on
Deadpool & Wolverine
.

Spider-Man has become an essential part of the Avengers team in the MCU, so it makes sense that Deadpool and Wolverine would want one for their own group. Given Deadpool’s long history with Spider-Man in Marvel Comics, too, it would be fantastic to see the Merc with a Mouth and a version of the wall-crawler together. Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, or, indeed, Andrew Garfield’s iteration from the Amazing Spider-Man duology, would be a worthy inclusion in Deadpool & Wolverine.

5 Peggy Carter’s Captain Carter

Captain Carter Could Join The MCU’s Multiverse Avengers Team

While Doctor Strange has become the key figure of the MCU’s live-action Multiverse Saga, Marvel Animation’s What If…? series has given Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter this role. Carter became the world’s first super-soldier instead of Steve Rogers, and has since battled Infinity Ultron as a Guardian of the Multiverse and thwarted Strange Supreme’s plans by elevating her power even further. Since Atwell already appeared as a live-action Captain Carter in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, this could be repeated in Deadpool & Wolverine.

The last MCU release of 2023 changed the power rankings of the MCU again, giving one hero the biggest power upgrade possible.

Captain Carter would have an invaluable role in Deadpool and Wolverine’s multiversal Avengers team, as she already has experience leading the Avengers in her own reality. Captain Carter can use her skills as a leader of the Avengers to assist Deadpool and Wolverine with leading their own group, and could perhaps even take control of the multiversal Avengers team for future MCU projects should Deadpool and Wolverine go their separate ways. This would allow the team to reappear during Avengers 5 or Secret Wars, fighting alongside the heroes of Earth-616.

4 Miles Morales’ Spider-Man

Deadpool’s Avengers Could Bring Miles Morales Into The MCU

One of the most highly-anticipated live-action debuts in history is that of Miles Morales’ Spider-Man, and it would be great for Deadpool & Wolverine to have the honor of bringing the young wall-crawler into the MCU. Speaking to Variety in March 2023, Amy Pascal confirmed that Miles Morales would be coming to live-action, and this was further clarified by Spider-Verse producer Christopher Miller in February (via X). After his hugely successful animated adventures in Sony’s Spider-Verse franchise, the idea of Miles Morales coming to live-action is incredibly exciting.

Miles Morales has a huge part to play in Marvel Comics’ multiversal storylines, as he is initially depicted as the second Spider-Man of Earth-1610, a.k.a. the Ultimate Universe. Morales is keenly involved in Marvel Comics’ Spider-Verse and Secret Wars events, so it makes sense that he would be included in the MCU’s biggest multiversal storyline to date: Deadpool & Wolverine. Of course, it’s likely too soon to bring Miles Morales into live-action, and it’s unclear whether this would take place first in the MCU or Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, so this may just be wishful thinking.

3 Johnny Storm’s Human Torch

Many Hope Chris Evans Will Return As The Human Torch

Chris Evans received international acclaim for his portrayal of Steve Rogers’ Captain America in the MCU, a role which he played for eight years before departing in Avengers: Endgame. While Evans has remained hesitant to return as Captain America, there has been interest in him instead reprising his earlier superhero role, that of Johnny Storm’s Human Torch from 2005’s Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel. Deadpool & Wolverine is the best place for this to happen, especially with the MCU’s The Fantastic Four set to release only a year later.

Fantastic Four and its sequel were both produced by 20th Century Fox, and there were planned crossovers between these films and Fox’s X-Men film series. This means it’s very likely characters from Fantastic Four could appear in Deadpool & Wolverine. Chris Evans’ Human Torch would be the most entertaining inclusion, and he would also be a powerful addition to a multiversal Avengers team, particularly if other members of Fox’s original Fantastic Four team join him.

2 Wanda Wilson’s Lady Deadpool

Lady Deadpool Would Make A Formidable Addition To Deadpool’s Avengers Team

Lady Deadpool is just as badass, witty, and violent as her better-known counterpart.

While none of the other candidates for Deadpool and Wolverine’s multiversal Avengers team have actually been speculated to appear in the pair’s Phase 5 movie, Lady Deadpool has. Several Deadpool variants will appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, and there have been suspicions that Ryan Reynolds’ own wife, Blake Lively, could play the female iteration of the Merc with a Mouth. This is yet to be confirmed, but Lady Deadpool would be a huge asset to her variant’s multiversal Avengers team, should she appear.

Lady Deadpool is just as badass, witty, and violent as her better-known counterpart, so it would be fantastic to see the banter Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool has with his female variant in the MCU’s Phase 5. Lady Deadpool was also a prominent member of Marvel Comics’ Deadpool Corps, so she may already have valuable experience of working in a team, which could prove handy for Deadpool and Wolverine’s multiversal Avengers. It’s unclear whether Lady Deadpool will stick around after Deadpool & Wolverine, but joining a powerful Avengers team gives her the opportunity to return.

1 Tony Stark’s Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr. Could Return As A Version Of Tony Stark’s Iron Man

It would be hard for anyone to fill Robert Downey Jr.’s shoes if a variant of Tony Stark’s Iron Man appears in Deadpool & Wolverine, but nobody needs to even try. Downey has expressed his interest in returning as Tony Stark (via Variety), a character he played for eleven years between 2008’s Iron Man and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, and Deadpool & Wolverine would be a brilliant place for him to come back. In an effort to retain Stark’s emotional Endgame sacrifice, Downey could portray a variant of his iconic MCU hero, completing Deadpool and Wolverine’s multiversal Avengers team.

It’s just crazily in my DNA. Probably the most like-me character I’ve ever played, even though he’s way cooler than I am. I’ve become surprisingly open-minded to the idea.

It’s perhaps more likely that Robert Downey Jr. would save his triumphant return to the MCU for Avengers: Secret Wars. Even so, every good Avengers team needs an armored hero, so Deadpool and Wolverine could seek out a Tony Stark variant to round-out their powerful group in the MCU’s Phase 5. There have been theories that Iron Man could appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, but only time will tell whether this comes to fruition. Deadpool & Wolverine introducing a live-action multiversal Avengers team creates many opportunities for the MCU’s future, so this prospect is very enticing.
