Tens of thousands of polling stations have opened up and down the UK to welcome millions of voters in this General Election.

General Election voting day is finally here after weeks of campaigning, which saw candidates try to win over voters with their pledges to change the country.

Polling stations opened their doors at 7am and they will close at 10pm.

There are around 40,000 polling stations where voters will select their candidate in the booth.

One of the key changes in this General Election is the requirement to bring a valid photo ID – a new rule since the Elections Act that passed two years ago.

If you registered to vote, you should have received a polling card in the post.

However, it is not mandatory to bring it with you to the station, but it can speed up the process.
