Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho sent a message of support to Bukayo Saka after the Arsenal winger scored his penalty in England’s shootout victory over Switzerland at Euro 2024 on Saturday.

Gareth Southgate’s side will now play the Netherlands in the Euro 2024 semi final at 8pm on Wednesday evening after edging past Switzerland on penalties.

Saka stepped up to score England’s third penalty in the shootout and the Arsenal winger, who scored the Three Lions’ brilliant equaliser against the Swiss, was praised for his courage to step up after missing his spot kick against Italy in the Euro 2020 final three years ago.

Sancho and Marcus Rashford also missed their penalties against Italy and they, alongside Saka, were subjected to racist abuse in the aftermath of England’s defeat at Wembley.

Following England’s win over Switzerland, Sancho was among the people to share their love for Saka as the Manchester United winger wrote on Instagram: ‘I’m so proud of this guy!

‘You did it for me and Marcus, brother.’

Meanwhile, Saka insists he had no hesitation in putting himself forward for a penalty against Switzerland, despite the abuse he suffered after the miss against Italy at Euro 2020.

‘You can fail once but you have a choice whether you put yourself in that position again or not. I’m a guy who is going to put myself in that position. I believed in myself.

‘When I saw the ball hit the net, I was a very happy man.

‘I’m not going to be focusing on the past. That’s done. I can only focus on now and taking a penalty.

‘Of course I know there’s a lot of nervous people watching, my family included and in the crowd. But I kept my cool and I scored.’
