James Gunn Reveals Best & Brightest Look Yet At New Superman Logo 1 Year Before DC Movies Release

James Gunn shares an updated look at the Superman movie logo, cementing its DC Comics inspirations one year ahead of the DCU film’s release. Superman’s DCU crest was the first thing director James Gunn revealed about Superman, with a close-up image of the hero’s chest. Following James Gunn’s full Superman suit reveal and various glimpses of David Corenswet’s Superman in action during the film’s production, more official images and promotional material are bound to be unveiled, starting with a new look at the DCU’s modern take on the iconic Superman logo.

On Threads, James Gunn shares a new official image of the Superman movie logo and raises excitement with the caption, “In exactly one year superman opens all over the world.” As previously revealed, the logo draws inspiration from Superman’s crest in the DC Comics storyline Kingdom Come, but with a classic red and yellow color scheme. James Gunn’s Superman Crest Is Very Different From Previous Movie Logos

The emblem David Corenswet’s Kal-El wears in James Gunn’s Superman differs greatly from every previous live-action movie Superman logo. Unlike the shields seen in previous live-action films, Superman‘s DCU crest barely resembles an “S”. It’s made up of straight lines, with a thick diagonal stripe, a thin upper horizontal line, and the lower tail of the “S” blending seamlessly with the outline. The upper right tail of the “S”, which has a stylized accent in previous movies, also blends into the logo’s outline in the DCU movie.

While the DCU’s Superman emblem is more minimalistic than that of previous big-screen Superman actors, it still possesses the same texture as the rest of David Corenswet’s Superman suit. Previously, Henry Cavill’s Superman logo had the same shiny texture as the rest of his costume, and Brandon Routh’s crest was made with a harder material than his suit. Christopher Reeve is the actor with the least complex Superman suit and crest, which might make them the most iconic so far.

While David Corenswet’s Superman emblem is probably the most unique on the big screen, it isn’t the first live-action Superman logo to draw inspiration from Kingdom Come. During the Arrowverse’s 2019 Crisis on Infinite Earths event, Brandon Routh reprised his Superman Returns role on the small screen, this time wearing an exact recreation of Superman’s Kingdom Come crest, complete with a red and black color scheme. Hence, James Gunn’s Superman isn’t only honoring all previous Superman movies, but also the character’s TV appearances as well.
