Mum among four killed after stolen BMW drove down wrong side of road | UK News

A mum was killed when a stolen BMW was driven up the wrong side of a dual carriageway and collided with her vehicle, an inquest has heard.

Alison Clark, 42, from Elloughton, East Yorkshire, died after the head-on crash on the A63 near Hull on November 22 2021.

She was returning home from a swim training session at the time, Hull Coroners Court heard.

All people inside the stolen BMW – Sam Connors, 19, William Harty, 20, and Lawrence James, 21 – were also killed in the crash.

The jury heard how police officers followed the stolen car until it went up the wrong side of the dual carriageway.

It was heard how the stolen car was driven 1.3 miles the wrong way before crashing into Alison’s Peugeot.

The stolen BMW came to the police’s attention because it displayed false number plates.

Mr Connors, Mr Harty and Mr James were believed to have been involved in the theft of catalytic converters from cars, the coroner said.

The inquest is expected to consider issues like police tactics around the pursuit of the BMW and whether Humberside Police ’caused or contributed to’ the fatal crash.

The inquest will also determine which man was driving the BMW at the time of the crash.

Alison’s husband Rob said she was devoted to their nine-year-old daughter Emily.

He said: ‘As a person of charity and community she touched many.

‘So many are in pain. I’ve heard her called “my best friend” so many times.’

He said his wife’s death had a profound effect on their daughter, leaving ‘an immeasurable hole in her young life’.
