Cybill Shepherd has been spotted during a rare public appearance more than three decades after starring in a hit 80s comedy drama.

The actress, 74, had her breakthrough role in the 1971 coming-of-age drama The Last Picture Show alongside Jeff Bridges, going on to appear in The Heartbreak Kid, Taxi Driver and Alice.

However, one of her biggest screen successes came after being cast in the detective comedy-drama Moonlighting.

The series, which ran from 1985 until 1989, starred Cybill and Bruce Willis as private detectives Madolyn ‘Maddie’ Hayes and David Addison.

It marked Bruce’s, 69, first major role and brought Cybill back into the spotlight after a nearly decade-long absence.

During her time on the series, Cybill won two Golden Globes for Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical TV Series out of three such nominations.

After appearing in Taxi Driver, Cybill faced a series of less-successful roles and turned to friend Orson Welles for advice, with the famed director encouraging her to get stage experience outside of Los Angeles.

She then moved back to her hometown of Memphis to work in regional theatre, where she remained for a decade before the Moonlight role came calling.

More than 30 years later, Cybill has made a rare public outing, being photographed on a shopping trip in Los Angeles.

Wearing an all-blue outfit, she covered up during the summers day in a long-sleeve shirt and jeans which she paired with some sneakers and aviator sunglasses while walking with a male companion.

The series eventually ended after five seasons (Picture: Abc-Tv/ Kobal/ Shutterstock)

Across its five-season run, Moonlighting was nominated for 16 Emmy awards, but eventually ended for reasons including Bruce wanting to star in more films after the success of Die Hard and Cybill, having just given birth to twins, growing tired of the long production days.

The lead stars also had a long-running feud, with Cybill once saying they ‘hated each other’ while working together.

However in 2022 she shared a rare comment about Bruce following the announcement of his aphasia diagnosi, saying she would ‘always love him’.

Cybill then went on to star in the TV sitcom Cybill from 1995 until 1998, with subsequent roles including Phyllis Kroll on The L Word and Linette Montgomery on The Client List.

She’s not the only 80s star to be spotted out and about recently, with fans getting a glimpse of Tom Selleck and Alison Doody.
