Al-Makura Didn’t Collect N57bn Loan, Says Group

The chairman Al-Makura Support Group, Mr. Emmanuel Yakubu, has denied the allegations in some quarters that the immediate past governor of Nasarawa state, Umaru Al-Makura, collected the sum of N57bn loan from commercial banks to run the state while he was the governor for eight years.

He stated in Lafia that Governor Sule did not also take any money to the bank to repay loans. He said it was the federal government grant to the state government that were deducted across all the 36 states and Abuja.

“This explanation becomes necessary in order to put the records straight and disabuse the minds of the gullible public with regard to the recent discourse in the public and media.

“This is to sensitise the gullible public on some provocative and unnecessary comments made by one Mallam Ayuba Umar, on the above issue, when he called for inquest into the N57b loan collected by former Governor Tanko Al-Makura.

“Unfortunately, Ayuba Umar has never been in government, and  as such, he didn’t know how the system works. He needs more lessons about governance.

“Nasarawa state, like any other state in Nigeria, benefitted from certain interventions at different times between 2009 and 2019 as a result of certain economic realities at that time,” he said.
