Bad Monkey Season 1 Episode 2 Ending Explained

Summary

  • Andrew uncovers Bonnie’s true identity as a wanted criminal, adding a layer of mystery to their relationship dynamic.
  • The discovery of bone shards in Christopher and Eve’s house hints at their involvement in a murder, raising suspicion among characters.
  • Neville’s connection to a mystical prophecy brings Andrew and him together, foreshadowing a potentially intense and interconnected storyline.

The first two episodes of Bad Monkey showcase the interwoven narratives of several main characters. Vince Vaughn leads the cast of Bad Monkey as a former Miami detective trying to get his job back after being demoted to a health inspector. Bad Monkey is one of the many shows created by prolific television producer Bill Lawrence, whose other works include Ted Lasso (2020-2023), Shrinking (2023- ), Cougar Town (2009-2015), and Scrubs (2001-2010). Bad Monkey follows Vaughn’s Andrew Yancy who comes across a severed human arm and believes it’s his way back to the police force after being demoted to a restaurant inspector in the Florida Keys.

Bad Monkey is an adaptation of the 2013 novel of the same name written by Carl Hiaasen, who has written several other comedic crime thrillers set in Florida. Bad Monkey has received great reviews upon its release, receiving a strong Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 91% as of the time of writing. Bad Monkey marks the first television series Vaughn has starred in since True Detective season 2 which was released back in 2015, although he did guest star in several episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm seasons 10-12. The first two episodes of Bad Monkey premiered on August 14, 2024, exclusively on Apple TV+.

Andrew’s Discovery About Bonnie’s Identity & Crimes Explained

Bonnie’s real name is Plover Chase

Towards the end of Bad Monkey episode 2, Andrew finds an investigator from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigators who tells him she’s looking for Bonnie, played by Michelle Monaghan. To Andrew’s surprise, he learns that Bonnie Witt is not who she says she is and has actually been evading the law for almost a decade. Bonnie’s real name is Plover Chase. She is wanted for having sexual relations with one of her underage students in exchange for giving him good grades. Bonnie, or Plover, obviously never explained any of this to Andrew and has been living a lie ever since.

This is especially interesting to Andrew considering that Bonnie, who is married now in Florida, was already having an affair with him. This reveals that Bonnie/Plover has been involved in scandalous sexual arrangements before she ever met Andrew and it may change how Andrew feels about her, although he seems pretty forgiving and not entirely ethical himself. It’s unclear whether Bonnie’s husband, who Andrew hit with his car into the ocean off a pier as revenge for him assaulting Bonnie, ever knew the truth about Bonnie/Plover. The investigator was able to track Bonnie down because the incident went viral online.

What Andrew & Rosa Find In Christopher & Eve’s House & What It Means

The bone shards in the shower drain strongly imply Christopher & Eve’s guilt

Another shocking element in Bad Monkey episode 2 is when Andrew and Rosa, a coroner who Andrew brought the severed arm to after coming across it, find bone shards in the shower drain of Christopher and Eve’s house in the Keys. In one of the most bizarre moments of the series thus far, Andrew licks the bone shard as he tries to figure out what it is, which Rosa finds ridiculous and disgusting. The fact that there are bone shards in Eve and Christopher’s shower drain strongly implies that they belong to Nick, Ever’s husband from whom she collected a $5 million life insurance claim following his mysterious death.

Throughout the first two episodes of Bad Monkey, Christopher seems to be one of the most suspicious characters and the most likely culprit of Nick’s murder. He has a vested interest in taking Eve from him, which he eventually does, and has proven himself to be self-centered, arrogant, vain, and potentially dangerous. Neville saw him come across his beach shack before it was torn down by Christopher and Eve’s demands through their henchman “Egg”. Now that Rosa and Andrew know there are bone shards in their home, they will have to figure out a legal way to attain a search warrant to collect the evidence.

The bone shards and the insurance money all seem to point to the notion that Christopher and Eve either killed Nick or had him killed, which is exactly what Nick’s daughter Caitlin suspects. Caitlin goes to Andrew asking him to look into it and Andrew reluctantly agrees. It turns out that the discovery of the bone shards might be the only evidence necessary to have Eve and Christopher arrested and get Andrew his detective job back. Eve and Christopher are still waiting for the $5 million life insurance policy to be cleared but they clearly have enough money and power to pay others to bend to their will.

Who Was The Driver Of The Yukon That Tried To Run Andrew Over?

Christopher and Eve could have had “Egg” do it

The most obvious person who tried to run over Andrew in the black Yukon was “Egg”, Christopher and Eve’s paid henchman. “Egg” was also the person who had Neville’s house torn down just hours after Christopher and Eve had requested it so it makes the most logical sense that he was also the person who tried to take Andrew out after asking Eve a series of questions when meeting up with her to exchange her husbands severed arm. It is entirely possible that there are other factors at play here and that the bone shards could have ended up in the shower drain after Eve had acquired the arm, but the question then becomes, why would she have put it in the shower?

How Andrew & Neville’s Stories Connect In Bad Monkey Episode 2’s Ending

Andrew and Neville are brought together by fate

Monkey looking up in Bad Monkey

Neville went to see the Dragon Queen, a powerful mystic, to put a curse on Christopher, which is how his life intertwines with those of Eve, Andrew, and even Rosa and Caitlin. Neville has had his home taken from him and appears to be out of options, but still has the willpower to fight back despite being scared of the Dragon Queen’s power. There is some type of spiritual force occurring when Neville, Rosa, and Andrew are all together in the same cafe at the end of Bad Monkey episode 2 although Neville and Andrew don’t know each other yet.

The Dragon Queen prophecies in a voiceover at the end of Bad Monkey episode 2 that a great storm is coming that will swallow them all, which makes it seem like even though Neville is in the right and Christopher and Eve are presumably in the wrong, there will be consequences all around for the curse. Neville could end up in a “Monkey’s Paw” situation in which he wishes for something but ends up messing too much with fate. Whatever the case may be, Bad Monkey episode 2 likely united Andrew and Neville to have them realize they share common motivations and enemies.
