The Night Agent Season 2s Release Date Tease Means Netflix Can Have Two Smash Hits Releasing Back-To-Back

Summary

  • The Night Agent season 2 is in advanced production.
  • The showrunner revealed all 10 episodes are being finalized, hinting at an earlier return.
  • Having The Night Agent and Squid Game return around the same time would be major for Netflix given the success of both shows.

The Night Agent season 2 is far ahead into production, suggesting Netflix could have two of its biggest shows releasing new seasons very soon. One of Netflix’s most popular action shows, The Night Agent season 1 premiered on March 23, 2023, and was renewed for a second season shortly after. The series is based on Matthew Quirk’s novel of the same name, although The Night Agent season 2 will have to be an original story considering there has only been one book.

Speaking with TVLine, The Night Agent showrunner Shawn Ryan revealed that editing for all 10 episodes of season 2 has been concluded. They are now working on the sound design and VFX, meaning that the show could return sooner rather than later. The Night Agent season 2’s premiere has not been revealed, but everything points to a late 2024 or early 2025 release. In April, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos indicated (via The Hollywood Reporter) that The Night Agent could return already in 2024 alongside other major titles such as Cobra Kai and Squid Game.

The Night Agent & Squid Game Returning Around The Same Time Would Be Massive For Netflix

Squid Game Season 2 Releases December 26, 2024

Assuming The Night Agent returns in late 2024 or early 2025, Netflix will have dropped new seasons of two of its most popular shows in a short period. That is because Squid Game, Netflix’s biggest show of all time, will return for a second season on December 26, 2024. While it would not make sense for Netflix to release The Night Agent and Squid Game around the same week, having these shows return with one or two months of difference could be a massive deal for the streamer.

The Night Agent season 1 was Netflix’s most-viewed show from January to June 2023 by a large margin at 812 million hours. Although Netflix’s What We Watched reports were not a thing when Squid Game debuted in September 2021, the streamer has made it clear that the Korean drama thriller starring Lee Jung-jae broke all sorts of records and remains their most-watched TV show. Interestingly, Squid Game season 3 is confirmed and will premiere in 2025, having been filmed back-to-back alongside the second season.

Will The Night Agent Season 1 Was So Successful On Netflix

The Night Agent Was Netflix’s 2023 Action Sensation

The Night Agent was a straightforward yet entertaining action thriller that made for a perfect binge-watch. At a time when so many movies and TV shows were sequels or IP-based, The Night Agent stood out as a standalone series with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Peter and Rose were compelling enough protagonists, with the mystery of the metro bombing setting the tone for a 10-episode series where every episode led right into the next one. The Night Agent’s action was also solid, making the show entertaining throughout.
