Waterloo Road has offered fans the first look at the new series, ahead of its return next month.

The BBC has confirmed the hit school drama will return on Tuesday 10 September, with comedy star Jason Manford taking over as headteacher.

His character Steve Savage is set to take over from previous school boss Kim Campbell (Angela Griffin) and is described as a ‘a charismatic charmer who impresses everyone he meets and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty to achieve the results he wants’.

It also appears Angela will not reprise her role as Kim – who she first played the show began back in 2006 – with the character not mentioned in a list of returning characters.

Instead, it seems Angela will be on the other side of the camera, returning to direct some episodes of the BBC show.

Also joining the cast are Saira Choudhry (No Offence, Life) as charismatic maths teacher Nisha Chandra, who isn’t beyond bending the rules to suit herself, and Olly Rhodes (The Last Kingdom) as Steve’s son Billy, who quickly captures the attention of the Waterloo Road students and teachers alike.

Sonya Nisa (Damsel) and Miya Ocego (Wreck) both join as Aleena Quereshi and Lois Taylor-Brown, who are art of Stace Neville’s crew and prove a force to be reckoned with.

The forthcoming series of Waterloo Road is the fourth to air since the show was rebooted in 2023, after eight years off air.

Last week it was announced the show has been recommissioned for two further series, meaning it will remain on air until at least 2026.

Waterloo Road returns to BBC One on Tuesday 10 September at 9pm, with all episodes of the new series dropping on BBC iPlayer from 6am the same day.
