AMD Ryzen 7 5800X is the same price as 5700X

There are plenty of CPUs vying for your attention in 2024, from Ryzen 9000 Series to the upcoming Intel Core Ultra 200K. Fortunately, with so many newcomers, the most interesting possibilities come from the discounts they push onto generations past. For a limited time, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X is the cheapest it’s ever been.

Shaving up to 67% off Ryzen 7 5800X, AMD is practically giving its Zen 3 powerhouse away for £138.99 in the UK. Surprisingly, this sets you back the same amount as Ryzen 7 5700X, making it an easy choice. Similarly, it’s $165 across the pond in the US and between €143-€158 in Europe. These are the lowest prices I’ve ever spotted in every region bar Italy, but you can check which deal you get in your home town by clicking the button below.

Despite the four-year age gap, Ryzen 7 5800X has a lot in common with the latest AMD Ryzen 7 9700X. Both feature the same eight-core, 16-thread arrangement, 32MB L3 Cache, and a 3.8GHz base clock. The 4.7GHz boost clock is 14.5% short of its successor and 105W demands up to 61.5% more power, but it’s more than half the price of the newer chip. Even today, I still consider it one of the best CPUs money can buy, especially with its newly low cost.

One thing to be mindful of is the upgrade path. With 5800X based on the AM4 platform, you’ll have a maximum of DDR4-3200 RAM and won’t be able to grab a Ryzen 7000 Series or Ryzen 9000 Series chip without buying a new AM5 motherboard. On the flipside, AM4 is now cheaper than ever, with B450 solutions going for as low as $60. Of course, it might be worth sprinhing for a B550 for increased connectivity, but that’ll depend on your budget.

Since this deal has been around for a few days already, I wouldn’t hang around too long, otherwise you risk missing out on some huge savings. It being on Amazon means you can try it out for up to 30 days before sending it back for a full refund if you’re not happy. You don’t even need to be a Prime subscriber to benefit from the return window.
