Overclockers Elmor and Safedisk have broken multiple records using AMD Ryzen 9 9950X, smashing through previous clock speed ceilings. With the help of extreme cooling, the duo claimed frequency and benchmark world records.

Using an Asus ROG Crosshair X870E Hero motherboard with liquid nitrogen cooling, Elmor pushed AMD Ryzen 9 9950X past 7,548.68MHz. This is a whopping 75% increase over its default 4.3GHz base clock and a 32% leap over its 5.7GHz boost. Overall, this puts it slightly ahead of TSAIK’s 7,444.38MHz overclock on an MSI board.

That said, in order to boot Windows at this speed, they disabled Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) in BIOS, meaning the CPU had only 16 active threads. With this, Elmor claimed the first spot on the Ryzen 9 9950X podium. Though still far from the highest clock recorded on a CPU, it’s as good as it gets on this specific chip.

At the same time, overclocker Safedisk managed to claim 170,646 points in Geekbench 3 multi-core, 321,970 MIPS in 7-Zip, 23,550 points in Cinebench R20, 60,798 points in Cinebench R23, and 77.57fps in HWBot x265 Benchmark 4k. These netted him multiple first places among 16-core CPUs.

To put some of these scores into perspective, we achieved 230,019 MIPS in 7-Zip tests in our Ryzen 9 9950X review. That’s a whopping 40% increase. If only such performance were attainable without the need for liquid nitrogen cooling. It’s also important to note that Safedisk’s achievements were conducted at lower frequencies, hovering between 6.7GHz and 6.9GHz – probably to improve stability.

On the subject of stability, note that while CPU-Z indicates a 1.025V operating voltage, to maintain such frequencies, the 9950X was probably above 1.6V.

In any case, congrats to Elmor and Safedisk for their achievements. We hope many are still coming, even though it seems this chip is approaching its limit already. Maybe next time, we’ll see the more exotic helium cooling.
