EastEnders legend Annette Badland has secured a role in an iconic Netflix show, which has just returned for a third series.

EastEnders fans will remember Annette as Aunt Babe Smith – one of the BBC soap’s most iconic villains.

Arriving on the Square in 2014, Aunt Babe caused havoc among the Carter family and the wider community with her antics.

During her time in Walford, she was exposed as a baby farmer, encouraged Abi Branning to lie about being pregnant and attempted to steal from the Queen Vic after leaving sister Sylvie to die.

One of her most famous moments occurred in her last episode in 2017, when she cursed the Queen Vic as part of her revenge for being cast out of the family.

Now, the Aunt Babe actress has joined the cast of Heartstopper – a series based on graphic novels by Alice Oseman.

Heartstopper is a coming-of-age LGBTQ+ series that follows characters Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) as they attempt to navigate school and young love.

When Netflix dropped a trailer for the next series earlier this year, fans went totally wild over it, and they have been loving the new series just as much.

EastEnders fans were absolutely thrilled to spot the iconic villain in a totally different role, taking to Twitter/X to share their surprise.

She isn’t the only recognisable face for soap fans, however, with fellow East Ender Lucy Speed also making an appearance.

Lucy played Natalie Evans in the BBC soap, but has taken on the role of Susan Denvers in one episode of Heartstopper.

Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey was also cast as Jack Maddox, an Instagram-famous author and Charlie’s celebrity crush.
