The Penguin’s Breakout Star Addresses Batman Fan Theories

Victor Aguilar actor Rhenzy Feliz chimes in on the major DC theories surrounding his character on The Penguin. Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe is having a big year as the filmmaker is expanding the franchise through the small screen with the ongoing The Penguin TV show. One of the players who is becoming a huge fan-favorite is Victor, played by Feliz, who Oz Cobb takes under his wing into the criminal underworld.

ScreenRant recently spoke with the cast and creative team of The Penguin at this year’s New York Comic Con, including Feliz, who has become one of the DC TV show’s biggest breakout stars. During the interview, Feliz was asked about online speculation as to whether or not Victor could be someone from the DC canon, whether it be Tim Drake or Jason Todd, to which he gave the following response:

Rhenzy Feliz: Well, I think it is fun that the people [are] having fun with it a bit. We saw this comic book cover almost that was sort of reminiscent or very close to an old time cover with Batman and Robin, so that was kind of fun just in general getting to see what people are saying. But [for] now, I’ll keep my theories close to the chest about anything I’m thinking. But it’s fun to see.

While Victor has had a great reception with the audience, it didn’t take long for many to start theorizing about whether The Batman universe spinoff series was perhaps planting the seed for an established DC character to come to life through Feliz’s role. It is not unheard of for live-action DC projects to have original characters be established as one player, and then eventually reveal that they are actually someone from the larger canon. It’s a great way to play with audience expectations, especially if a character from the comics is getting a reimagined origin story in said live-action adaptation.

With Feliz’s comments and reaction to whether or not Victor is someone from the Batman mythology, it is possible that the reason he wouldn’t disclose more of his thoughts is because perhaps there is a twist coming in the final episodes of The Penguin. With only a couple of episodes left to air for the DC crime drama, it would be a shame to spoil such a huge surprise if that is indeed where they are going with Victor in The Batman universe. There is also the chance that a big DC reveal is coming even before The Penguin finale.

As interesting as it would be to see Victor perhaps be revealed as a familiar name from the DC Comics world, it is most likely not going to be the case as this is an original creation specifically created to help drive Oz’s storyline in The Penguin. Unless there is a natural twist coming after The Penguin episode 4 and beyond, it makes sense for Victor to simply be an original character, as it also allows Reeves to tap into the Elseworlds aspect of his franchise by adding players who aren’t already part of the comics. But for now, the world will have to wait and see if there is more to Victor than meets the eye in The Penguin TV Show.
