Gigabyte reckons its new BIOS feature can boost AMD Ryzen 9000X3D CPU performance by up to 35%. The new setting seems to also affect existing Ryzen 7000X3D and non-X3D chips, but to a lesser extent.
Unveiling a new feature its AM5 motherboards, Gigabyte says it can boost performance on all Ryzen CPUs, including upcoming Ryzen 9000X3D models. According to the manufacturer, its X3D Turbo Mode can deliver up to a 35% performance boost for gamers using Ryzen 9000X3D chips. But that’s not all; even those owning regular non-X3D processors should see its benefits, expected to reach 20% on Ryzen 9000 Series.
There’s still much we don’t know about the feature beyond Gigabyte’s spotlight. The company didn’t reveal how much performance is on the table for Ryzen 7000X3D CPUs, or how it’s achieving such numbers. So far, the only thing it let slip is that it includes unique optimisations that – for example – push Ryzen 9000 non-X3D performance to the level of X3D models.
My guess is that it includes some sort of overclock using AMD’s Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO). This may or may not also include DDR5 overclocking, combined with the firmware optimisations built inside the latest AGESA 1.2.0.2a. Regardless, Windows 11 24H2’s promised optimisations surely have something to do with it all.
Much of my assumptions come from Gigabyte covering all bases, saying performance improvements may vary depending on the CPU model and DRAM conditions. After all, enabling a 35% boost with a single BIOS setting seems too good to be true without an overclock. Still, one can dream of the heights we’d achieve if we can tweak settings even further. Either way, it’s an outstanding achievement that I’m more than happy to see.
The X3D Turbo Mode will be integrated alongside AMD’s AGESA 1.2.0.2a into the latest beta BIOS release. Later, Gigabyte plans to synchronise it with the Aorus Snatch Engine. This feature will be available on the brand’s latest X870 and X870E boards in addition to all 600 Series, meaning no one is left behind.
