Late Night with the Devil follows a TV host whose Halloween episode goes awry when a possessed guest brings a demon on set, causing lethal chaos.

The biggest reason why Late Night with the Devil has performed so well with critics and audiences, who gave it an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, stem from its winning mix of Dastmalchian’s committed performance, its satirical take on the talk show genre and horrific visuals. While there have been some comparisons to the BBC’s cult classic Ghostwatch, they have been positive ones, commending the Cairnes siblings for their mix of format accuracy with period-inspired horror. Forgoing the modern genre’s focus on jump scares, Late Night with the Devil has instead been praised for its focus on atmosphere and characters.

Our Take On Late Night With The Devil’s New Streaming Success

Word Of Mouth Carries Across Platforms

When it comes to the why of Late Night with the Devil‘s streaming success on Hulu, there are a variety of reasons that could be attributed to it. Whether it be its recent premiere on the platform, the fact that audiences are looking for horror-related viewing in time for the Halloween season or just the word of mouth from its theatrical run, it’s clear the movie has a lot going for its future beyond its life on Shudder.

Late Night with the Devil
set a streaming record upon its Shudder premiere, landing the platform’s biggest opening weekend ever, as well as becoming the most-watched release on it and AMC+.

This also leads me to hope that Late Night with the Devil‘s success on Hulu leads to the streamer considering other future titles being shared with other platforms in the future, or at the very least turn more viewers on to the horror streamer. In addition to Late Night, the streamer has the two other best-reviewed horror movies of 2024, with the Irish hit Oddity and French spider chiller Infested, both of which have 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Regardless of what the future holds, as someone who loved the film, it delights me to see Late Night finding further success.
