Gigabyte has presented its new motherboard feature, claiming it can boost gaming performance substantially with a single click. This uplift includes both regular and X3D chips.
According to the brand’s presentation, all its X870 and X870E motherboards come with a feature dubbed X3D Turbo Boost. This BIOS option tunes power, core distribution, and bandwidth to extract more performance out of AMD’s Ryzen 9000X, 9000X3D, and even 7000X3D processors with a single click. Yep, even non-X3D CPUs can benefit from it, as long as you own an X870/X870E motherboard. In fact, non-X3D chips see a higher uplift than their 3D V-Cache counterparts.
To be more specific, Gigabyte talks about a 3.56% boost in Far Cry 6, 4.5% in Horizon Zero Dawn, and 5.01% in Tomb Raider using a Ryzen 9800X3D at 1080p resolution. Interestingly, the CPU that benefited the most isn’t even an X3D part. Ryzen 9 9950X saw a 7.31% increase in Horizon Zero Dawn, 9.39% in Tomb Raider, and an impressive 17.98% in Far Cry 6. It seems that last-gen Ryzen 9 7950X3D also likes whatever Gigabyte is doing, showing an 8.53% boost in Tomb Raider, 11.03% in Horizon Zero Dawn, and 16.14% in Far Cry 6.
In other words, if you own a Gigabyte AM5 motherboard plus a Ryzen 9000X, 9000X3D, or 7000X3D Series CPU, you simply need to update to the latest BIOS to unlock this setting. According to Gigabyte, enabling this option on a non-X3D CPU is like owning an X3D chip.
It seems as though almost no one is left behind. The brand mentions all AM5 boards as compatible, meaning existing X670/X670E/B650, not to forget B850 should see the same support. Also, note that these new figures are much lower than the 35% uplift initially claimed by Gigabyte. But still, all the numbers are heading in the right direction.
