Coronation Street favourite Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) has officially quit his job as archdeacon after Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) sad death.
Billy has been struggling with his grief in the weeks following Paul’s death, but in tonight’s episode he told the Bishop that he was ready to get back to work.
This came as a shock to Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), who thought it was way too soon.
Considering Summer’s sentiments, Billy thought about it some more, before reaching the drastic conclusion that he wanted to step back from being an archdeacon altogether.
When he told Summer about his decision, she was horrified that he would quit his job so suddenly with no back-up plan.
Billy was quick to assure her that he was still going to be a vicar, but bad news followed when he revealed that there were currently no available parishes for him to work in.
Though Billy was keen to get stuck into volunteering at a grassroots level by starting a grief support group and resuming his addiction group, Summer was furious about the whole situation.
At a loss, she informed Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) of the situation, who promised to talk to Billy.
However, their conversation didn’t work out the way Todd had hoped, as Billy asked him to keep his distance after their kiss a few weeks ago.
Things had taken a bad turn for Billy when he found out that Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) had planned a watch party for Paul’s ashes launch in the Rovers.

He wasn’t happy that she was making a spectacle out of the event, and insisted that he wouldn’t be attending.
Later, Bernie headed round to try and make amends, and Billy ended up agreeing to go to the watch party.
