Dragon Ball DAIMA Introduces A New Type Of Fusion, The Franchise’s First Since The Buu Arc

Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima Episode #4Dragon Ball Daima just teased a brand-new variety of fusion, the first time that the idea of fusion has been altered since the advent of Potara Earring fusion in Dragon Ball Z‘s Buu saga. Given how fusion has worked in the Dragon Ball universe so far, this new method raises a number of interesting possibilities for Daima‘s future.

Fusion played a major role in the Buu saga in two different ways. The first was the infamous Fusion Dance, a special technique which requires that two warriors of comparable size and power perform a specific set of motions perfectly, leading to a fusion that lasts for 30 minutes. The second was through the use of Potara Earrings, special earrings given to Supreme Kais that allow any two people who wear the earrings on opposing ears to fuse into a single being that (unless a Kai is involved) lasts for 1 hour. These two varieties of fusion lead to different fused beings, such as Gogeta and Vegito, depending on which technique is used.

Daima’s New Fusion Opportunity Could Have a Big Impact

Daima Could Create a Third Fused Being

In Dragon Ball Daima episode #4, Goku is at a roadside shop, where he finds a display with a variety of wondrous items, all made from bugs. Aside from Senzu Bean-like revival bugs, Goku also discovers an item, the Join Bug, which, if broken in half and shared between two beings, will allow for a fusion between them for a short period of time. Goku ends up buying a few of each of these items, including the Join Bugs, foreseeing that it could be very handy to have in the future.

The Join Bugs offer an interesting new means of achieving fusion, and given that the Fusion Dance and Potara Fusion create different beings, the Join Bugs could further create another new fused being. While the Fusion Dance has some specific requirements that must be met, and the Potara Earrings are exceptionally hard to come by, the Join Bugs appear to be quite plentiful in comparison, to the point where Demon Realm natives don’t even seem to find them particularly interesting.

Daima Could Introduce Fusion Combos Never Seen Before

The Join Bugs Could Offer Fans Some Fascinating Opportunities

While the Join Bugs could obviously be used by Goku and Vegeta, once the latter has arrived in the Demon Realm, there’s no reason that it would have to be those two. Piccolo will also seemingly be accompanying them, introducing the first real opportunity for Goku and Piccolo to fuse. The Supreme Kai and Glorio have both indicated that they aren’t particularly interested in eating bugs, but there’s no reason other than dislike that prevents them from getting in on the fusion fun, either. A Goku-Supreme Kai fusion would certainly be an interesting concept, at the very least.

The Join Bugs are actually a bit of a brilliant decision; they allow Daima to introduce new fusion forms, while also explaining why they aren’t seen again in Dragon Ball Super or GT–the Demon Realm’s Join Bugs aren’t available in the outside universe. While it’s not yet clear how Join Bugs may stack up against other types of fusion, their relative abundance and ease of use make them extremely valuable. Dragon Ball Daima will surely deliver on the promise that these items represent, and it’s only a matter of time before Goku puts these to work.
