Warning! Spoilers ahead for High Potential episode 6.
High Potential ending features Morgan writing on the police station’s door, which could impact her relationship with Karadec moving forward. ABC’s newest procedural based on the 2021 French television series HPI marks the small screen return of Drew Goddard, whose portfolio includes writing and producing for some fan favorites such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Alias, Lost, Netflix’s Daredevil, and The Good Place. Now, he spearheads It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia‘s Kaitlin Olson’s High Potential, which follows Morgan, a high-potential intellectual who becomes a consultant for the LAPD’s Major Crimes division, typically teaming up with Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata).
Since debuting in September, the series has been steady in ratings for ABC’s Tuesday’s 10 pm timeslot. That said, High Potential recently set viewership records, with episode 5, “Croaked,” garnering 6.83M viewers across seven days of linear viewing, but jumping to 10.49 million viewers after its post-airing arrival on Hulu. In episode 6, “Hangover”, aside from a complicated murder case, also introduces a brand new subplot that could change the trajectory of the show. That all boils down to one of its final scenes, which features Morgan writing on the door of the precinct’s door.
Morgan Wrote Her Number On The Door In High Potential Episode 6 Ending
High Potential Episode 6 Sets Up A New Romance For Morgan
Fully understanding Morgan’s motivation for writing on the door requires revisiting some of the more subtle clues throughout High Potential episode 5 that result in her actions. It all starts when the precinct’s new janitor, Tom (JD Prado), approaches her about smudging the glass doors with her chips residue-covered fingers. While not defensive, Morgan is able to evade not getting in serious trouble, but as a former cleaning lady and a high potential intellectual, she immediately recognizes that the conversation isn’t just about her eating behavior. Subsequently, Tom approaches her again about the mess on her work table.
So, instead of waiting for Tom to muster up the courage to say what he actually wants to tell her, Morgan makes things easier by giving him her number.
Morgan knew right away in High Potential episode 5 that Tom had been trying to flirt with her, hence why he kept on approaching her. Luckily for him, it doesn’t seem like the LAPD’s unconventional consultant is immune to his charming ways. So, instead of waiting for Tom to muster up the courage to say what he actually wants to tell her, Morgan makes things easier by giving him her number. That said, she chooses to do it in a more creative and thoughtful way — writing it on the precinct’s glass door with chips residue.
Morgan’s Budding Romance With Tom Affects Karedec
There’s Clear Chemistry Between Karedec & Morgan
Morgan likely finds Tom interesting and cute, otherwise she wouldn’t have given him her number in such a bold way. While giving her a proper love interest in High Potential is a good way to diversify her narrative, it could mean bad news for her current relationship with Karadec. Currently, the show has established that Morgan has two ex-husbands, the missing Roman Sinquerra, and Ludo Radovic (Taran Killam), the father of Elliot, with whom she has a good platonic relationship. It’s unclear, however, if he is also the father of her youngest.

Surprisingly, Kaitlin Olson’s hit new police show works as a great replacement for Pysch ten years after it ended its eight-season run on USA.
That said, there’s no denying that there’s chemistry between Morgan and Karadec in High Potential — something that could hopefully turn into something romantic in the future. With Tom in the picture, at the very least, any chance of that coming to fruition in the near future is shot, as the police procedural can focus on Morgan’s budding new romance. The burgeoning relationship can also impact the office dynamic, considering that Tom also works in the same LAPD precinct.
Will Morgan & Karedec Get Together In High Potential?
HPI Has Brought Together Morgane & Karedec
Ultimately, there is no denying the tension between Morgan and Karadec, and High Potential develops it in a way that leaves the door open for an eventual romance. While getting together now is exciting and Tom being in the show slows that process. That said, it seems like High Potential‘s plan for Morgan and Karadec is for a will-they/won’t-they affair — a romantic trope that is tried and tested on longer format network shows. It also sets up a more satisfying pay-off once they finally get together.
Granted that ABC’s High Potential can veer away from the original’s take on the romance, but it’s safe to say that it won’t be totally skipping the romantic aspect between Morgan and Karadec.
For what it’s worth, High Potential‘s original French version, HPI, also started with a similar dynamic for its version of Morgan and Karadec — Morgane Alvaro and Adam Karadec. The couple didn’t get together until after the first year. Granted that ABC’s High Potential can veer away from the original’s take on the romance, but it’s safe to say that it won’t be totally skipping the romantic aspect between Morgan and Karadec. So, it’s safe to say that Tom’s arrival will be a temporary romantic liaison for her.
