ESPN sources report that Chelsea and Manchester City have agreed on a fee of £45 million for English U-21 international Cole Palmer.

On Wednesday, after Chelsea made a formal offer for the 21-year-old, an agreement was swiftly reached between the two Premier League clubs.

Palmer is expected to undergo a medical with the London club on Thursday to finalize a deal before the transfer deadline on Friday.

Palmer is under contract with City until 2026 and has had a promising start to the season, scoring in the team’s Community Shield loss to Arsenal and UEFA Super Cup win over Sevilla.

Chelsea rapidly reached a deal after Mauricio Pochettino backed a plan to add one more attacking player to their roster, even though it was uncertain whether City would approve a departure.

Chelsea has also considered several alternatives, including Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe and Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson, even though Tottenham is progressing in pursuing the latter.

Palmer desires regular playing time, but the arrival of Stade Rennais winger Jérémy Doku for £55.5 million has complicated his path to Man City’s first team.
