Oscar-nominated Hollywood star Nick Nolte, 83, has no plans of retiring as he stars in Chris Hemsworth’s latest action movie, Crime 101.
The actor has worked in the film industry since the 1970s with over 100 projects to his name and he scored his first Academy Award nod for his role as Tom Wingo in 1991’s The Prince of Tides.
He later secured two more for 1997’s Affliction where he played Wade Whitehouse and 2011’s Warrior as Paddy Conlon.
Other projects the longtime screen star is well known for include The Thin Red Line, Gracepoint and, most recently, his appearance in Natasha Lyonne’s Poker Face.
His 2025 movie Crime 101, directed by Bart Layton is adapted from the Don Winslow novella of the same name and boasts a star-studded cast including Chris, Nick, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, Halle Berry and Monica Barbaro.
The novella plot follows Detective Lou Lubesnick who is investigating a string of high-level jewel thefts when he zeroes in on one so-far undiscovered perp who lives by a strict code of conduct known as Crime 101.
The veteran actor, whose role is so far undisclosed, was spotted on set opposite his co-star, also known for playing Thor in the MCU.
The star reached his height of fame in the 90s, following his first Oscar nomination, and was dubbed People’s sexiest man alive in 1992.
In 2022, Nick opened up about why he is still determined to act, so many years later.
‘I’ve always had something artistic outside of myself that I can turn to, so I’m still interested in the stories. I don’t really know what they are, as there are fewer and fewer of them these days,’ he told Business Insider.
‘And I don’t find the 80s particularly fun because you’re falling apart in a way. But I’ve always said that I’ll keep on going until I just can’t go anymore.’
The actor is known for going to extreme lengths to get into character. For his role in 1976 drama Rich Man, Poor Man he had to play the age range from 16 to 45.
To prepare for the younger years, for which he aimed to weigh 150 pounds ‘dropped down to that weight and got that boy body back.’
He added: ‘I ran around that Hollywood reservoir day and night.’
He is also well-known for a high-profule feud with former co-star Julia Roberts with whom he appeared opposite in 1994’s I Love Trouble where Julia Roberts described working with him as ‘completely disgusting’.
Thirty years on, Nick said the hatchet was ‘buried’ and added that it was ‘absurd what they went through’.
In a 2015 interview with GQ, the actor also spoke about the ageing pains his body is going through that have led him to tears.
‘I cry when I try to get out of bed, because I’m in my 70s and my body hurts like hell.
‘Once my joints are moving, I’m all right, but those are my first tears in the morning, wondering if the pain is going to get worse or get better,’ he said at the time.
