Selena Gomez reveals her dating ‘standards’

The ‘Lose You to Love Me’ singer has been linked to stars like Justin Bieber and The Weeknd in the past. Selena Gomez said this week that she has “standards” for anyone she dates.

“I think I have standards, and I think I live in a world right now where boys confuse standards with high maintenance,” the “Calm Down” singer said Thursday on SiriusXM Hits 1 LA with Tony Fly and Symon. They told her that in her new song “Single Soon,” she calls herself “a little bit high maintenance, but I’m worth a try.”

“It’s not the same thing at all,” she said. “But the line was funny because I’m not embarrassed to say, ‘I actually need you to do X, Y, and Z for us to be together. So, in a way, it was just the way the song was meant to be. And I really do feel that way.”

She said anyone wanting to date her needs to be “cool.”
“Not cool in the sense that people think you’re cool,” she explained. “You just have to be nice, make me laugh, and be good to my family and the people around you.”

Tony Fly said, “That’s a good X, Y, Z,” to which Gomez replied, “Yeah, I think so. “Let’s see.”

She had said earlier in the chat that she liked being single.

“I think everyone goes through a phase where they think, ‘Oh, it would be nice to have someone,’ and I get that,” Gomez said. “But, you know, I’m just happy where I am, and I just want to be happy with who I am so that when that person comes into my life, they can just add to me instead of making me feel insecure like I usually did.”
Before Justin Bieber married Hailey Baldwin in 2018, Gomez dated him repeatedly for years. Over the years, the singer of “Love You Like a Love Song” has been tied to Nick Jonas, Taylor Lautner, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Zedd, Drew Taggart, and The Weeknd.

The 31-year-old singer said that her new record doesn’t have “one sad song.”

“I honestly don’t feel like I have it in me to say something bad. She said, “It just doesn’t fit where I am now.” “And I live in the world of sad girl songs. That’s great. I always write songs like that, but I didn’t want this record to be like that.”

She also said that she has surrounded herself with “good people” and continues to go to therapy. She said, “I went through a really hard time, and there was a lot of emotional stuff going on in my head and in my life. I just feel like a lot of work went into it.”
This week, the “Only Murders in the Building” star rejected reports that “Single Soon” is about her ex, The Weekend, after an outlet shared on Instagram that her fans thought it was.

“I couldn’t be falser,” she replied.

Gomez also got some negative feedback after she wrote on Instagram that she “missed” working on “Only Murders in the Building.” Supporters of the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike said that she broke union rules by pushing projects, which is against the rules.

Variety said the post was on her Instagram for 15 hours and got over a million likes before it was taken down.
