Dexter’s First Kill Reveal In Original Sin Adds Another Tragic Twist To His Story With Deb

WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for Dexter: Original Sin episode 1.

The Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin adds another tragic twist to Dexter Morgan’s relationship with his sister Deb. Developed by New Blood creator Clyde Phillips, the prequel series chronicles a post-college Dexter as he embraces his “dark passenger” through the guidance and teachings of his adopted father, Harry. Dexter implements Harry’s code to satisfy his violent urges while making sure never to get caught.

After Michael C. Hall reprised his iconic role as the charismatic vigilante serial killer in 2021’s Dexter: New Blood, he returns as Dexter’s inner voice and narrator in the prequel series. The series takes place in Miami in 1991 as Dexter begins his career at Miami Metro PD. Dexter: Original Sin will likely cover a few anticipated kills that are already established in Dexter’s lore. Another upcoming Dexter series, Dexter: Resurrection, is expected to be released in the summer of 2025 with Hall also slated to return.

Dexter Missed Deb’s Volleyball Game In Order To Complete His Very First Kill

Dexter was supposed to fill in for Harry in the audience

Dexter: Original Sin episode 1 reveals where Deb was during Dexter’s first kill with his first victim, Nurse Mary. The prequel series shows how Dexter started his serial killing career by letting her down. He tells Deb that he will go to her volleyball game because Harry was unable to since he was in the hospital after suffering a heart attack. Instead, Dexter breaks his commitment to Deb and misses the game in order to kill Nurse Mary.

Dexter: Original Sin Cast & Returning Character Guide

Dexter: Original Sin features a slate of new actors playing familiar characters from the original Dexter series and the return of Michael C. Hall.

Dexter let Deb down in the prequel series for his first kill and essentially ended his serial killing after letting her down in the original series. Back in season 8 of the original show, Dexter said he was going to stop killing once and for all after it led to Deb’s death. While New Blood ultimately thwarts Dexter’s intention to stop killing, Deb still haunts him throughout that sequel series. Original Sin proves that Dexter’s beginning and would-be end of his decades-long killing spree involve Deb one way or another, especially considering she was dating the Ice Truck Killer in season 1.

Why Deb Still Showed Up For Dexter’s Graduation After He Stood Her Up

Deb will do anything for Dexter

Dexter: Original Sin demonstrates early on what every Dexter fan has known about her relationship with her brother: she will do anything for Dexter. Even though it appears as if she dislikes Dexter and thinks he’s weird at the beginning of Original Sin, her love for him is clearly (and eventually strangely) demonstrated throughout the original series. Deb showing up for Dexter at the end of Dexter: Original Sin episode 1 proves that she will always have her brother’s back, no matter what.
