Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 4Skeleton Crew episode 4 is here, featuring a wide collection of fun Easter eggs and references. Continuing their journey with Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood who’s agreed to help them get home, the kids of Skeleton Crew find themselves on a new world, one that’s very much like their mysterious home planet of At Attin. To that end, there are some very cool nods and references throughout the new episode.
In Skeleton Crew episode 4, Wim, Neel, KB, and Fern quickly discover that the coordinates given to them by Khy’mm in Skeleton Crew episode 3 merely took them to a nearby star system. As such, they land on the nearest planet in this new episode, one that’s much less peaceful than their own. To that end, here are the biggest Easter eggs and references we found in Skeleton Crew episode 4 as the mystery of At Attin continues to unfold.
13 Climate Controlling Satellites
They Could Be Very Dangerous
While entering the planet’s atmosphere, a collection of satellites can be shown surrounding the world’s orbit. These appear to be for climate control. However, devices like these in the Star Wars galaxy can be used to create major weather disturbances, as shown during Operation Cinder following the death of Emperor Palpatine.
12 Jod’s Home Planet
“Ashy Dust”
Jod Na Nawood briefly mentions his homeworld which he describes as ashy and dusty, much like this new planet the crew of The Onyx Cinder have come to. As such, this is one of the first mentions of his background and history. With any luck, more will be revealed about Jod in the episodes to come.
11 The Same Mural From At Attin
A Ruined Replica Of Fern’s House
Finding the ruins of a town not unlike their own back home on At Attin, the kids find a rundown house that looks just like Fern’s. The house has the exact same layout, complete with the large mural that likely depicts the founders of the Old Republic’s “Jewel” planets, and the tree in the center of the spiral staircase, albeit very overgrown. As such, it follows that every “Jewel” planet has a similar layout of buildings and architecture, having been founded by the same beings.
10 At Achrann And The Other Jewels
Names Connecting To Mythology and Ancient Kingdoms
Later on in the episode, it’s eventually confirmed that this new world is known as At Achrann, a dark mirror to At Attin that’s long been plagued by war between clans known as the Troik and the Hattan. Other Old Republic Jewel names are confirmed as well once Jod and the kids make it to this world’s Supervisor’s Tower: At Aytuu, At Arissia, At Aravin, and At Acoda. Likewise, each name seems to be derived from mythology and ancient kingdoms.
For example, Aten was the name of an aspect of the Sun God, Ra, and it’s also the name of a lost “golden city” discovered in 2021. Arissia may be derived from the ancient Roman town of Ariccia which has associations with the goddess Diana and the god Virbius. Achrann may come from Acheron, the river of woe located in Hades. At Acoda could come from Coda, the name for an ancient Indian dynasty. Likewise, At Aytuu could come from Aitu, a Polynesian word for malevolent spirits or ghosts.
9 SM-33’s Faulty Memory
A Lot Like BEN From Treasure Planet
SM-33’s inability to remember At Attin in Skeleton Crew resembles BEN from Treasure Planet, an old robot whose memory of Captain Flint’s trove was similarly erased to keep others from finding it. BEN was voiced by Martin Short, who thankfully didn’t turn on Jim Hawkins like SM-33 did when his own memory was restored as seen at the end of Skeleton Crew episode 4.
8 Kids Battling Adults
A Nod To Yoda (And Perhaps Peter Pan)
Wim asking Hayna if she’s part of a group of kids fighting adults for control of the planet could be a nod to Yoda’s adventures in Marvel’s Star Wars series from 2015 by Jason Aaron, where the small Jedi master once encountered a planet where kids were indeed at war with the adults. However, It could also be a reference to Peter Pan with the Lost Boys taking on Captain Hood and his crew across Neverland.
7 A Rise of the Resistance Nod?
Very Similar Architecture
Elements of the Troiks’ base remarkably resemble the end of Disneyland’s Rise of the Resistance ride. After Wim fires the large blaster (and it knocks him to the ground), the shot of the ceiling looks coincidentally similar to the exit of the premiere ride at Galaxy’s Edge.
6 Changing Blaster Settings
A First For Live-Action Star Wars
Wim changing the blaster’s power settings in Skeleton Crew is the first time the feature has been shown. The feature was first described (and shown in a good bit of detail) in 1976’s A New Hope novel by Alan Dean Foster, and there are mentions in the old Marvel comics as well as in The Mandalorian season 1. However, the actual act of dialing the power up and down on a blaster is first shown here with Wim in Skeleton Crew episode 4.
5 A New Sub-Species Of Eopie
First Seen In The Prequels
The camel-like creatures known as Eopies were first seen on Tatooine in The Phantom Menace, though these new ones seen in Skeleton Crew episode 4 do have some slight differences. Ridden by both Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace and by Obi-Wan Kenobi on multiple occasions, it’s confirmed that the Eopies on At Achrann are essential to the Troiks way of life.
4 Damaged RX-Series Droid
Another Star Tours Nod
Skeleton Crew episode 4 features another Star Tours nod following several that have been discovered in previous episodes. When the kids hide in a damaged bus from the Hattan soldiers, the same model droid pilot can be seen as the one that drove Neel and Wim to school in the show’s premiere. This is an RX-series pilot droid, the same model that originally piloted the shuttle in Star Tours before being replaced by C-3PO in the ride’s 2011 update.
3 Hayna’s Blaster Looks Familiar
“Exterminate!”
Hayna’s blaster rifle resembles a Dalek gun from Doctor Who. In the classic UK sci-fi series, the Daleks are the sworn enemies of the time-traveling Time Lord known as The Doctor. While it’s likely just a coincidence, the blaster barrel is remarkably similar.
2 The Old Captain Killed His Crew
Mirroring Captain Flint
In Skeleton Crew episode 4, the original captain of The Onyx Cinder killed his crew and erased the coordinates to At Attin. This is a direct mirror to Treasure Island’s Captain Flint who did the very same. Likewise, it was Treasure Planet’s Captain Flint who took BEN’s memory about the location of his trove as well as his booby traps. The same seems to have happened with SM-33, though in this case, 33 himself is the booby trap.
1 SM-33 Mirrors Infiltrator Droids from Rebels
E-XD Series
SM-33 transforming and extending his limbs to attack the kids resembles the Empire’s E-XD Series infiltrator droids. Seen in Star Wars Rebels season 3, episode 14, these droids appeared to be rather innocuous until they were ready to strike, revealing themselves as brutal assassin droids serving the Galactic Empire.
