On Wednesday, an Oklahoma deputy sheriff was apprehended for fatally shooting his spouse.
Just before 2 a.m., police arrived at a residence and discovered a woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was identified as forty-year-old Jordan Cannon.
“Responding officers discovered the deceased body of Jordan Cannon. She appeared to have been fatally shot, according to the Oklahoma City Police Department’s report.
41-year-old suspect Vaughn Cannon was also present when police arrived. “Investigators determined that Mr. Cannon shot and killed Mrs. Cannon during a heated argument,” the report states.
The Oklahoma City Police Department arrested Vaughn Cannon, who is being held at the Canadian County Jail. According to reports, Vaughn and Jordan Cannon were married and served as deputies for Cleveland County.
The sheriff’s office issued a brief statement in response to the demise of Jordan Cannon.
“We are all devastated. Jordan was a ray of sunlight whose smile could illuminate an entire room. She cherished her position as deputy constable and was passionate about helping others. This is a difficult time for all parties involved, but we will get through it together, wrote Sheriff Chris Amason in response to the news.
“I’ve enlisted the aid of our peer support group, our counselors, and our chaplain to assist our employees and community during this challenging time. The Oklahoma City Police Department is currently conducting an investigation.
The Okarche Police Department issued a statement as well. The department wrote, “In the end, it’s not the number of years in uniform that matters; it’s the sacrifices made, the lives touched, and the legacy left.”
“We are profoundly saddened by the senseless murder last night of Cleveland County Deputy Jordan Cannon, a courageous officer. This heinous act not only deprives us of a devoted and brave public servant, but it also undermines the very foundations of the community she served. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and coworkers of Deputy Cannon as they endure this unimaginable agony and sorrow.”
