In the immortal words of a certain cartoon professor: “Good news, everyone!” After a year of SSD price rises caused by the insatiable hunger for AI-capable hardware, TrendForce analysts say it’s finally heading in the other direction for a change. Although deflation will supposedly sit around 5% to 10%, you can already see deals going a step further, giving you far more for less.
Take this 2TB Acer Predator GM7, for example. Right now, you can get it up to 25% cheaper, bringing it to its best price yet at £107.99 in the UK. This isn’t quite as low as the 2TB Crucial P3 Plus, but with just £3 in it between them, you get a drive that’s 44% faster.
It’s a similar story across the oceans, as Acer Predator GM7000 runs for $125 in the US and €153.40 on the European continent. The only difference between the two models is that GM7 doesn’t have a dedicated DRAM cache, which helps save on cost but isn’t as readily available in certain territories.
Acer Predator 2TB SSDs
Making the most of the PCIe 4.0 interface, this NVMe delivers uncompromising speeds of up to 7,400MB/s sequential read and 6,500MB/s write.
Before I get into why these are some of the best SSD deals around, do note that discounts are fleeting. UK shoppers have already claimed 8% of stock, while just five are left for our North American friends. Click the button above to see the price in your local region.
Fortunately, you don’t need to worry about pressure purchasing, as there’s a safety net. Although these savings come from third-party sellers, they still conform to Amazon’s 30-day return window. You can change your mind at any point within the first month of receipt and get a full refund. You might as well give it a shot, as there isn’t a discount like it right now, and you can always change your mind.
Your first thought might be that it’s unusual to see Acer in this space, considering the brand is more known for laptops, monitors, and its BiFrost graphics cards. Like most brands, it has its fingers in many pies, and this is a collaboration with some of the best partners in the biz. Biwin produces them and lends the license to Acer, packing either an InnoGrit IG5236 controller and Micron TLC flash memory for GM7000 or Maxio MAP1602 and YMTC TLC flash memory for GM7.
Based on the previous Gen4 interface, you can get up to 7,400MB/s sequential read on either drive. GM7000 is a touch faster with sequential write speeds at 6,700MB/s compared to GM7’s 6,400MB/s, but both are plenty fast. Not zippy enough to get toasy and require a heatsink, but GM7000 provides one anyway, which also primes it ready for PS5 compatibility.
No matter which drive you go for, they’re each rated for 1,300TBW and come with a five-year warranty in the rare instance anything goes wrong. You’ll also get access to Acronis Clone Software, which helps you transfer and back up your data. You can never be too careful.
