According to authorities and local reports, two women were killed when gunfire erupted outside an emergency center in Birmingham, Alabama, as gunshot victims arrived for treatment on Monday morning.
WBRC-TV reported that the gunshot occurred just after 2 a.m. outside UAB Hospital. The police responded, cordoned off the area outside the emergency room, and locked down the hospital.
The ages of the two victims, 24 and 33, have been disclosed by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, but not their names.
Witnesses told AL.com that a Chevrolet Tahoe pulled up to the emergency room entrance, requesting assistance for multiple gunshot victims.
According to the news source, the initial gunshot is believed to have occurred after an altercation at Aria Restaurant and Lounge on the 900 block of Fifth Avenue North.
An officer of the Birmingham Police Department informed the media that at least five individuals were shot during the incident. No arrests have been made, and no additional information is immediately available.
