Alan Tudyk Joins James Gunn’s Superman Movie For Second DC Universe Role

DC Universe actor Alan Tudyk joins another DC Studios project by landing a role in James Gunn’s Superman. With Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters”, the revamped DC Universe will bring a new era of superhero content on the big and small screens. The first film, arriving in 2025, is Superman, featuring David Corenswet as the next cinematic Man of Steel. Plot details are so far being kept under wraps, but the movie also features Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Deadline reports that Tudyk will appear in Gunn’s Superman movie, playing a secret role in the 2025 installment. Tudyk is already attached to the DC Universe as the voice of Doctor Phosphorus in the Creature Commandos animated series, which premieres on December 5 on Max. At the time of this story’s publication, Gunn, DC Studios, and Warner Bros. Discovery have yet to comment on Tudyk’s Superman casting news.

Alan Tudyk Confirms Superman Casting News

Following
Deadline’s
report,
Tudyk
took to his official Threads account to confirm that he has indeed joined
Superman
, with a comedic response:

“between you and me – I am playing Jimmy Olson’s French photographer friend, Bertrand ‘Bertie’ Muegler, who specializes in adult avant-guarde snaps. Wears a cape, but isn’t a super hero, just a fashion slut.”

What Alan Tudyk’s Superman Casting Means For The DC Universe

Tudyk’s Creature Commandos Role Allows Him To Play Other Characters

Even though Tudyk is already voicing one of the main characters in Creature Commandos, his Superman casting doesn’t conflict with the upcoming animated Max series. Tudyk will be portraying Doctor Phosphorus, a character who does not physically resemble a regular human, as he is radioactive. Tudyk being part of the Superman cast works because he will be playing a new character who will likely not have a condition like Doctor Phosphorus, which would require CGI work in live-action.

While Gunn has stated that actors who get cast for animated DC Universe projects will also play their live-action counterparts, it doesn’t prevent the same star from playing additional roles, either. Gunn’s brother, Sean Gunn, will not only voice Weasel and G.I. Robot in Creature Commandos, but he is also set to play Maxwell Lord in Superman, making it his third gig in the franchise. With that in mind, it would definitely be interesting to see actors like Gunn and Tudyk having all of their different characters from Creature Commandos and Superman in the same scene at some point.

Our Take On Alan Tudyk Joining Superman

Tudyk Is A DC Pro At This Point

Seeing Tudyk land another role in the DC realm is only fitting as he has lots of experience with this side of comic book movie/TV culture, as he has starred in Doom Patrol, Harley Quinn, and Young Justice, in addition to Creature Commandos. The bigger question is who he will actually be playing, as it could be a new DC character who ends up having a bigger arc in other DC Universe movies and TV shows. For now, the world will have to wait and speculate until next year when Superman arrives in theaters.
